Normal Practice?

Robert received an appointment yesterday for an MRI next week which was unfortunately booked for the day we are due to go on holiday so I rang the hospital to change it. He's going on the 10th June instead now. He's also been asked to have a blood test aswell. I was just wondering if it's normal practice to have an MRI a couple of years after treatment has finished as we weren't expecting this at all. I rang his Oncologists Secretary to ask her why he needs to have this and she said she didn't know and she was just told to book him in for it. Have others on here had MRI's a couple of years after treatment has finished? Is it just the norm and to check that everything's still OK, although he is still having problems with his thyroid and still has to have regular blood tests for that.

Thanks

Lorraine

Hi Lorraine
I can appreciate your apprehension at the dr request for an MRI etc but as you said, Robert still has 'issues' with his thyroid and all so it's probably just a conscientious dr you have.
Easy to say to try not to fret and just enjoy your holiday however I know (we all know!) it's not that easy.
Are you going somewhere exciting for your holiday? You all have such easy access to exotic places over there, unlike us colonials who have to travel for days just to get to the country's border!
I'll be thinking of you.
Love

Hi Deborah,

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I was trying not to sound as panicked as I was feeling. I don't know, things seem to tick along nicely and then something like this crops up. It's just all a bit sudden and unexpected really. I'm wondering if this disease is forever going to be hanging over us and would just like someone to tell us why he's got to go for this scan. He was supposed to go for the blood test this morning but the nurse is ill so he's got to go next Thursday now. They've been saying his antibodies are raised each time he has a blood test - I don't know if that's a good or bad thing? And you're right, his Oncologist is very good. I'm just having a right battle with myself in my head at the moment. I'm trying to remain logical.

We are off to Italy - I've tried to post a link to our hotel's webcam. If it's worked, I'll give you a wave lol. http://www.aminta.it/live_sorrento_webcam.php

Thanks for listening.

Lorraine

Howdy Lorraine
Italy! Italy!! Wow. How lovely. How exciting and exotic. Mind you, I am in central Victoria at the moment and it is just beautiful. Autumn leaves dropping from the birch trees outside my window and the ground covered in fallen leaves. Ahhhhh .........
You are so right about cancer and it's after effects hanging over your head. That's the truth of the matter unfortunately the trick is not to let it govern your day to day activities. Good news or bad, you will get it when you get it and nothing will change it so make sure life is a blast!
I woke this morning to the realisation that it is 2 years today since we got Trevor's original diagnosis. Now where did that come from?????? Never in our wildest dreams did we imagine the outcome to be as it has been. We had a lot of lovin' and livin' in those two years ~ would've LOVED a whole lot longer, but ........
I didn't see the "Lorraine and Robert are here" arrow in the link but I got the general gist of your holiday mansion! Good luck to you both, I say. Have a great time and worry about worrying when you have no other choice.
Love
Deborah

Hello Lorraine ,This is normal practice if a patient has been left with any problems post treatment ,you said your hubby has thyroid issues so they are just being vigilant and monitoring him as a they should .This is a good thing, blood work can sometimes give alerts to maybe small changes even through medications that show that a change may need a closer look and in your husbands case with his thyroid could be he needs different medication to stabilize this .( Is he on any thyroid Medication)Never the less the old worry sets in but try and look at this on a positive side .Wow your holiday destination looks fabulous, so you two enjoy yourselves and put everything else on the back burner till you get home .

Happy Holiday's,

Bell.

you have to click for the live ISDN link - i saw early morning road traffic in the background and an early swimmer 'booking' a place by the pool
