Hi,
I developed SCC (lymph graln in throat removed, sucessfully) followed by Radiotherapy (35 treatments)to my throat) and Chemotherapy (Cisplatin 7 sessions)

I noticed over he end of this perion that my writing deteriorated (to illegible) and I was occasionally incapable of logic thought (mental mathemetics, etc) (and unable to post on this forum - BIG frustration!)

A Blood test has revieled that I have a severe swelling of the Thyroid gland.

I don't know why i'm surprised - the thyroid is in in the same general area as the throat as was zapped during Radiotherapy !"

I am assured that the 'problems will be cured by a course of tablets....

Has anyone else experienced similar?

Best Regards

Robert WT

Still maintaining a positive mental appitude after these five months!

No not experienced it, but I was told to have regular blood tests for the specific thyroid check every 6 months or so as it is common to develop thyroid problems after radiotherapy.

I keep looking for poppy eyes and every time I put on a few pounds wonder if it's my thyroid. Iwas told it often happen by year 3.
On the Acor HN Listserv lots of members have had thyroid problems post rads.

About two years after my dad's radiation and chemo ended for tongue cancer he started experiencing what we now know was thyroid problems. He was extremely forgetful, his body temperature was all over the map and he was exhausted all the time. He went on Thyroxin (i believe is the name of the drug). It took a good few months to get the dosage right but once they did he was back to his old self. I'd say it's worth talking it over with your doctor. All the best.

Hi Robert, I have Hypothyroidism. Have to take
tablet for it. You take them 1 hour before you
eat any breakfast in the morning. I had mine
right after my cancer and radiation. Hope this
helps
