Hi

Is anyone aware of any charities/organisations (other than this one!) which specifically deal with Head and Neck cancer/Oral cancer?

Awareness seems to be very low (it is hardly ever mentioned on general cancer sites) and I'm just wondering if there is anything I can do to help raise it's profile to get more money put into research for prevention/cures

Thanks

Hi

There are several charities that help oral cancer patients Macmillan Cancer Relief and Saving Faces come to mind.

Following on from my work in setting up the Mouth Cancer website, I set up the Mouth Cancer Foundation in June 2004 as a nonprofit company limited by guarantee, it is in the process of becoming a charity. The Mouth Cancer Foundation would be a patient-focussed organisation dedicated to supporting the needs of head and neck cancer patients. It would work together with existing bodies but play an initiating and coordinating role and be totally focussed on its remit. I have applied, through the DoH Section 64 grant scheme, for seed (core) money to set up a secretariat, and new project money for the project. I don't know if I will get the funding. If not, I will seek other avenues.

If you wish to, you could help raise the profile of the 'Mouth Cancer Foundation' during this year's Mouth Cancer Awareness Week (7-13 Nov).

Best wishes
Vinod :coffee:

I am a bit fed up with Breast Cancer, that seems to have all the lime light, at least you can feed your face; but with troat cancer you cannot do any comfort eating.
I read John Diamond's book and I really thought that with some pop stars having T.C. there would be a bigger profile and Charity Work done; would it be an idea to get some of these T.V.Cooking people on the case. i.e. fab food, yet some of use cannot taste swallow, and we have to live on tasteless slops for the rest of our lives.
The pain threshold is hell on earth.
