We have now been given appointment to see Dr Nutting on the 26th of this month so we will travel down night before in case of flight delays .We have a bit of a drive anyway to leave from Glasgow airport and then get through the London traffic for 12pm appointment.Have been advised to fly to Gatwick .

Paul feeling hopeful they will be able to finally remove this new problem .So he is now ready to face round 2 ,fingers, toes, everything crossed. Will post when we have had the consultation.

Bell & Paul.

Hi Bell,
As Trev says, enjoy London a little. Shopping in Oxford Street etc.
It's frustrating this is being drawn out when you want and need to get the ball rolling, but at least you have a couple of treatment options available.
You're both still in my thoughts.

Good luck to you both on the 26 March. Bear in mind that there is no car park at the Marsden Fulham branch. They usually recommend going by public transport, but there are some very expensive parking meters in side roads near the hospital. Also bear in mind that you will have to pay the Congestion Charge for entering the Congestion area. This is refundable from the Marsden, but only if you have the receipt and go in person. You might be better to consider the Gatwick Express combined with a taxi.

Best wishes

Hello to you all, thanks you for your advice and good wishes .Secretary at Royal Marsden has now advised Glasgow to Heathrow ,then take the Heathrow express to South kensington, then I think we will take taxi to Royal Marsden Chelsea .
They have said we can have a room for the night in Dame Unity House which is a 10 minute walk to hospital for £39.00 pounds which would be ideal as it is best we travel down the night before .Our appointment with Dr Nutting is at 12 noon but have a registration process before .We have got flights home at 7.30.pm which will mean we are not stressing about getting back to airoport and missing flight home. Then we have an hours drive from Glasgow back home .
Hope we don't get lost in London !!

Most importantly we are hoping for a positive solution to this recurrence and will take things from there .If there is a solution we will need to work out travel and tretment plan from there so just keeping calm and waitng with anticipation for this consultation .

Will post when we get back ,I wish it was tomorrow but Paul just putting things to the back of his mind and trying to get as much golf in as possible which has been hard as weather down here on the Ayrshire coast at moment has wild and wet .

Best wishes to everyone ,

Bell.

Hi everyone ,We returned home this evening .Saw Dr Nutting today ,he was very charming and talked through possible treatment .We are a bit overwhelmed tonight with information and Paul gone to bed a bit anxious and worried, as is the usual case, you listen take in then get home and think of questions you did not ask .
First option is IMRT .This would involve 6 full weeks but with new IMRT machine and without the combined Chemotherapy he had 4 weekly with the intial standard form of RT previously.

He said this would not be as bad as last time.Concerns arise here as Paul was radiosensitive from end of week one initially and took him a year and half to get on his feet which Dr Nutting is aware of .

Second possible option is surgery where they would operate and then do brachy therapy so would maybe be a couple of weeks .The other problem is whether Surgeon can do this through nasal passages or may have to make an incicion in gum teeth area to gain access .

Paul now concerned about this method as we did not ask if thre would be any nerve damage to mouth etc in this area. Also facing the whole RT programme again.

Dr Nutting is now going to confer with surgeon as to whether this would be a better option for Paul and as to where this proceedure would be done ,ie through nose or mouth incision ,so will need to wait until we hear next week .

We did ask about success rate and he said 30% which does not seem very high.He did say that at moment it is a very small pea shaped size on other side(Kind of back to back) of where original tumour was but is unsure if this bit is new or just not been irradiated in original treatment as we did not have an MRI etc done when original tretament finished and was just the 3/5 week camera scope clinic, so could be either .He also said he could not tell us how quickly this would grow to cause problems but would grow and is best attended too .

Regards the PDT he said it would be of no use as the area is not thin enough for the dynamic light to penetrate ,if that makes sense.

Any information on anybody who has had this type of operation and brachy therapy done through mouth incision to nasopharynx area would be greatly appreciated .

Also any one who has had IMRT as a second treatment to full conformal RT would also be greatly appreciated .

We will let you know what is to happen .

Bell and Paul .

Hi Bell

You must be feeling pretty emotionally & physically drained!!! At least you know what the options are now. Write down any questions as you think of them before your next visit. It becomes so overwhelming doesn't it and then you forget what you wanted to ask. Look after yourself too Bell, will be thinking of you, keep us posted.

Love to you and Paul
