Growth next to uvula

Hello...I have what seems to be a miniature uvula growing next to my uvula on the arch. It is smooth, pink and hangs down but not off a thin string...it is consistent in diameter...if I open my mouth in a wide yawn it sort of seems to flatten out.

I am a former smoker (over a year) and 34 years old. My lymph glands are not palpable (at least as far as I can tell). I have had a not sore throat but have felt a "present" throat. Knowledge of the growth has made me clear my throat more too which could be the cause of the sticky feeling. It just sort of feels a bit uncomfortable but the doctor said it looks like post nasal drainage.

A PA looked at the growth and said it was sort of like a skin tag but did not look like cancer. The dentist said that my oral tissue looked remarkably healthy for only having not smoked a year and that the small growth did not look like cancer.

I am just concerned as it has not gone away and nobody seems to think that biopsy is necessary. I am going to see a gp next week though as it is causing me to have some anxiety issues with regards to cancer fears. Any ideas would be helpful.

Hi Danelle

Until I read your last line, I was going to tell you to go to the doctor. Anything unusual like this should be checked out. You might want to take someone with you to ask any questions you might forget, and a hand-holder is always nice.

As I told someone just recently, the only way to determine if a growth is cancer is to do a biopsy (unless, of course, your PA or dentist has x-ray vision). Anyone who says they can tell if something's cancerous or not "just by looking" is pleine de merde or selling something.

Congrats on quitting smoking. I'm sure that you've been tempted since this whole incident started--resist, resist.

Please let us know how this turns out.

Julia
