Going back to work is a personal choice.I started with noble intent but very quickly realised that I had to give my all to recovery from my treatment.I have had fantastic support from my employer but I realised quickly that I had to give this my best shot. I have had three months off work but now feel positive enough to consider going back.
This is a difficult choice as once you are back they expect that you are up for it.I have agreed a phased re introduction back to work. I have yet to be given the all clear in terms of the cancer but I expect to be back at work soon. |

Hi Everyone
Paul I have read your recent posts including the post about communicating in public and that ridiculous nurse who was surprised you could speak it is infuriating and impacts on your day to day life when you just want to get on with things (I understand) I hope your PET scan appointment has come through now. I had a PET scan on the 04/01/06 it was done to mark a year post op and given my age they want to check everything is fine I did not really worry about it apart from the feeling of numbness having to attend yet another appointment if you know what I mean............. but my consultant has just brought my appointment to see him forward by more than a couple of weeks I am going in tomo at 10am they are often messing around with appointments and I am often turning up to clinics and my consultant is in an emergency op but my session has never been brought forward I am probably being totally irrational but I can not help but think this is a negative sign because of the scan results Mel x |

There have been lots of comments by lots of different people, so please excuse me for combining messages/questions to everybody below.
Robert, Glad to hear you are feeling better. It has taken me over a year until I felt able to return to work. I went back this week and I'm really enjoying it. How is your son, has he had his appointment yet? Paul, Good Luck with all the investigations. You are back in 'the system' now, and we all know how surprisingly quickly the NHS can move at times. Melanie, Don't panic too much about them bringing your apopointment forward, although I think we all know how difficult that is to do. They brought one of mione forward by a couple of hours, when I was waiting for the results of a CT scan. I convinced myself that they had done this so that they could do a biopsy the same day, and start treatment asap. I was completely wrong, there was nothing to worry about, and it was just because a meeting was cancelled in the morning. The receptionists who arrange these meetings have no idea what we go through when they change our appointments. The reason that they have brought your appointment forward coul just as easily want to put your mind at ease. Good Luck to everybody Jenni |

Hi everyone
Thanks for your replies the PET SCAN results came back and they did show signs of recurrence of my tumor but my consultant is swaying more towards the opinion that it is not a recurrence but just the bone graft settling down however they don’t really know they can not take a biopsy and so I just have to wait and see if I develop any pain (UNLIKELY I HAD NO PAIN BEFORE I WAS DIAGNOSED ANYWAY) or any difference in the structure of my palate its all a bit uncertain I suppose just like it was before but now I have a PET SCAN TO TELL ME ASWELL. Besides it is certainly better news than i expected Mel x |

Just to let you know that the consultant saw our son on Wednesday and said that the lump under his tongue is a cyst in his salivary glands. He is reluctant to remove it in case it causes the other salivary glands to react. He advised us to just let it run its course and die. The only reason he would consider removing it is if it became very painful. So that was a relief but what a cruel trick of nature to put us through that at this time.

Hi Paul,
I have been regularly following your posts and find them really great as you have shown a great deal of guts and your outlook towards life is what makes all the difference. That is a lesson I have learnt too - I cannot turn the clock back and so have to accept where I stand today with any kind of rancour or feeling as to what will happen if the damn thing reoccurs. Life is very short as it is - why should we make it shorter by getting into the "why me" mode all the time and spend such valuable time moping? Hats off my friend, all will be well. Que sera sera. Ananth PS : By the way Paul -do read my post on the topic "Lets be positive" about voice. Live on your beliefs and strength- and you will become immortal. |
