For my friends who know the story of my husband robin ,i thought you would like to know that he is being taken back into hospital tomorrow.his lack of nutrition and his general neglect of his health have caused a an hole to open up from his neck right through to the floor of his mouth on the site where he had his secondary tumour removed. This has become infected and caused massive swelling to his face and neck and despite the doctors efforts it is not responding to antibiotics.

I am waiting to hear more news tomorrow.

Good Luck with Robin and his results, Liz.
I must say he appears to be one stubborn male, not wanting to look after himself and go down like he has. Maybe now someone while he is in hospital will see the type of depression he may be suffering and get some help for him mentally and physically. Let us know how he goes I'm sure he is very uncomfortable.

Hi Liz

Been following your posting, really hard to know what to say, Robin has a second chance and I hope that he grabs it with both hands.

One of the guys that was in hospital with me drank alot he even smuggled drink into the hospital, I saw him last week at the follow up clinic he had lost weight down to six stone and had an open wound that requires hyperbaric treatment.

It strange I use to like a drink now and then, but now it all taste like vinegar so I don't drink now at all.

I hope that Robin starts to see that life can be good and stops drinking

Take care

Regards

tony

Hey Liz,
It was bound to happen wasn't it? & i expected it to catch up with him sooner! Well, he's in the best place & i hope it's the wake up call he really needs! No one desevres to suffer but he wasn't prepared to help himself and so shouldn't expect any different.
I really hope he turns a corner from this!

All the best to you,
Michelle

I can relate to the weight loss.I reached my lowest level at 9.8 last week .After that I decided no more.Over the weekend I made an effort to eat and in fact I have developed a bit of an appetite, small portions of stir fry in Soy Sauce goes down very well .Also small duck spring rolls

I owe it my family ,the docs and myself to mke this effort to eat.

Oh Liz, my lovely Liz, you can't do anything, any more than you have done already. He's a mans man, tough guy. survivor. And that is what he thinks he is goinig to convey to you and the rest of the world. I am so sorry it has come to this, although we all knew this would happen. Keep us posted. If I can do anything please let me know. If I have to drive down there or up there!!

Liz, you gave unconditional support to me when I was scared, all I can do is give unconditional support back. You probably need to be close to home right now. I live on the coast and the surf is a great object to shout at. When you need to have a real good yell you would be welcome here.

Well just to give his tough guy image one last go, he refused to stay in hospital yesterday, despite the fact that the surgeon who first diagnosed him was appalled at the state he is in.
The fistula has gone right through to the inside of his mouth, and the tissue is necrotic and infected. They cleaned it out and packed it and said they would only let him go home if he promised to go in today and stay.

I think at last he realises he has no where left to go if he ever wants to get better,so i arranged for his best friend to collect him at 9.30 and he is safely ensconsed in the Royal Surrey at Guildford .The doctor wants him to stay until it is healed but i dont fancy their chances of keeping him that long and the nutritionist is on the case so fingers crossed. He has promised to behave and do as he is told, and to be honest i think he feels so ill he will for a while, but knowing his harry houdini history i dont know what will happen when he feels better, still we will see.

As for me i am trapped in Yorkshire with the M1 being closed and the A1 is closed at newark because of flooding!!!so i am chewing my nails and pacing the floor but feel a little better knowing he is being taken care of.

thanks for all your kind wishes
love liz

My heart goes out to you Cookey.

It's just so terrible seeing someone you love suffer and, I should imagine, even worse when they are also making their own suffering worse.

None of us can truly know what it is like to be in their shoes.

Hi Liz,

He is in the best place, lets just hope he stays put for a while but you need to relax a bit or you will be the next one in hospital. Have you ever heard of the tapping technique, it sounds whacky but it really does work. It can totally de-stress and relax you. I will send you the details if you want.

Thinking of you
Angie
