Hello Paul. Glad to hear from you I was wondering how you were getting on. We thought maybe you had gone on holiday. You
are going away aren't you? I want to say that I have the utmost admiration for anyone suffering from this disease who lives
alone. I really don't know how you get through each day with the burdon of test results etc and trying to stay positive.
It's hard enough with a loving family around trying to give what support they can. I am sure the middle of the night must
be the worst. That is why this site is so helpful - we have the freedom to say just how we are feeling, knowing that no-one
is going to get upset or judge us in any way. As far as teeth is concerned, I had all my bottom teeth removed at the operation
and can look forward to a denture some time late next year. That's the trouble with this cancer, it doesn't just take one
bit of you, it affects so many other bits and particularly in the face where we can't hide it away. One thing it can't do
is take away your spirit and what makes you the person you are. We are all holding hands with each other on this site and
when one of us dips a bit the rest of us will hold him/her up.

Good to hear from you again Paul. You must have decided not to go away after all. I shouldn't worry too much about your teeth.
I know dentures will never be the same but look at all the 'hearthrobs' like Michael Doglas and co who opted to have new gnashers
so that they would look more fancierable*. New word that.
But no joking....I know how wretched you are feeling . I am 15 years older than you and it is bad enough. Although I am blessed with a large family I live on my own by choice as I am a very independent female. I dread this being taken away from me if this new lot of stuff next week shows up some fresh nasties to be dealt with. And I don't tell my children what is going on in my head wlthough I would love to or I would soon be known as a moaning Minnie. How do you actually FEEL?--sorry can't do italics. I have to say that if I have spent an evening in company I come home feeling refreshed and hopeful even although I hadn't wanted to go. There is the rreally alluring temptation of becoming a sort of a recluser. Messing about with food when you feel like it, being in a bad mood but trying not to take it out on the dog!) and watching moronic telly until the cows come home. You have a nice cat don't you, Paul? I so hpe you don't have any more treatment necessary. By the way on a Cancerlink newsletter I get from the US once a month there is mentioon of a new treatment for head and neck cancers which is giving good results. Would you like me to send it to you? Regards Ishbel |

Hi Isbel & Brenda B
Well I am on my own by choice but had a partner for 18 years or more so it is very strange, Not lonely but it is so difficult to make new friends in the area where I live although I have had a flat here for over 20 years never really lived in this one. One of yuo mentioned about having your teth out , Well the Dentist at Max Fax told me I have 90% chance of getting osteoradporosis (I cant spell it)and it is painful goes on for month and often means stays in Hospital OMG all for one lousy little white lump Phew thanks for listening guys PS WHERE IS MY MATE MAUDE she is my strengh good luck to all of you on this journey Paul |

Hi Paul, I've had all my bottom teeth pulled this last year or so. I live on Baby food. I was
put to sleep when I had the teeth pulled. I know it is a pain to go threw. Just keep logining on to the site and that will help you get threw it. Try not to have a panic attack. Hope all goes well with you? I'll help as much as I can. I love having the bottom teeth gone, have nothing that my teeth can grind on at night. Best of luck to you. Cathy |

Cat you are very brave about your teeth. Just what Paul needs to hear although it seems a shame he has to go into hospital
so often with it. Lucky Paul with India to look forward to. I know you love it there and have admired your pictures on the
web.
My late father was a tea planter in Assam and Darjeeling and was always telling me wonderful stories and saying I had to go one day. Well you never know... Cat, out of inter4st, what sort of baby food do you have? It would take a lot of the stress out of a meal now and again for me if I took these, plus adding new flavours to my menu. Tnoght I managed something nice. I bought a dozen medium prawns in their shells--so much tastier than the North Sea shelled ones which are tasteless really--and blended them for ages along with about 3ozs melted butter. Coveree with foil and chilled for a couple of hours. Really delicious and slid down so easily so I really felt I had had a meal. Regards Ishbel |

Hi Ishbel, I eat Gerber Baby food. It has the best test. Do you get that over there? Any of there meats are good most of there
fruits are good. Also I eat Mashed Potatoes done in the blender. Hope that helps.

Hi , I am not sure why you guys(ladies sorry) have problem eating? Can you swallow food ect?
I have false teeth on the top of my rotting black teeth but have to take them out to eat Also have only part of my Tongue due to Radio but that is not very mobile. Anyway was going to say Pasta(add oil when boiling) goes down my throat a treat, I have things like chicken in sauces, Tuna in Garlic Mayonaisse, Bolougnaise and Vegetarin curries & Rice (homemade of course)and eat that with pasta or mashed potato. I usually make enough for a few meals then either keep in fridge or freeze that way do not have to cook every day and heat up in the Microwave. Hope this helps if you can eat baby food should be no problem with these foods I think keep well Paul |

Paul, What are you doing up at 4.30 in the morning! I thought this was early enough (can't sleep!) Just a thought for those
with eating problems like mine i.e. have to have liquidised food - I have recently created a Blog and there is a section on
diet with a few ideas that I use (I will add to it when I can) the address is www.brendasob.blogspot.com the section on Diet is quite a way down - you don't have to read the whole thing
unless you have an hour or so to spare!! I tried baby food right at the beginning but found them too bland. I know it's
a bind having to do a bulk shop/cook but it's worth it when there's lots of "base food" in the freezer - then just add a bit
of what you like. I long for the day when I can get my teeth into something. This Christmas is going to be very strange
- my first with mushy food.

Hi brenda B, Well it was early but at as for alot of guys(and ladies) on here I think all I do is Cat nap day & Night
I was shattered on Tuesday evening after being taken round the shops in Croyden about 30 miles from here then we went to a restaurant and I got a lift home, I was tired out but I slept about 2 hours and that was it. I am like that all the time, My best sleep seems to be about 8am & 4pm when I sleep very heavy for a hour or so on the couch Yes food is a big problem specially when you go out and see these people eating all the wonderful things you use to like.it makes me very envious Although I was never a lover of sweet things and I never ate Fruit I eat about 4 Litres on Vanilla ice cream a week loL Paul |

Hi Paul, I eat Sherbert Ice Cream a lot. I love it. I get Migranes so have to watch foods that
I eat. Plus I have no bottom teeth so can't chew. Cathy Cathy |

Thanks for contributionsfrom Paul and Cat and Brenda about food. Look forward to reading your blog tomorrow Brenda. I'll give
Gwerbers a try Cat--we can get them here. Paul your menu siounds much more adventurous than I could be, much as I would like
to. Pasta just will not make it down my gullet. Just one kind of ricwe does, done the Arab way, and it is so fiddly it takes
ages and doesn't freeeze very well to dfo lots. But you were saying about ice-cream. I don't understand either why it doesn't
add weight and yet people who are slimming are always moaning that they can't have it bwecause it piles on the pounds.
I think in a way it's luclky that we, ort certainly I sleep alone with my eccentric sleeping habits. Unlike Paul I can't vcat nap, nor can I sleep until 2.30 in the morning and don't budge in bed until 11a.m. And to go Christmas shoppingmin Croydon --or anywhere--first thing wold be a real endurance test. By the way tis made me laugh, talking about shoppping. I was reading a letter from somevbody who went to one of these massive factory shop outlets. He walked throufgh the long underground road after parking the car and then came to a ig sweeping staircase, quite a grand thing, curving up to the shops. And at the bottom of the stairs in big black writing was a sign which said in black:"CAUTION. STAIRS:"He couldn't imagine who would have benefitted from the sign. You couldn't miss trhe stairs. A blind person couldn't read the sign. So what was the sign for? I can't get my head round it either. Regards Ishbel |

Ishbel, Dont think I am being frivalous saying been shopping.
It takes me alot of confidence someone I can trust COMPLETLY to do this I usually only go to the Supermarket by car so it was a real change for me. You say you have problem with Pasta, When boiling put in a spoon of oil and chop up when cooked and mix in a sauce. I cannot plan to go anywhere a I never know what I am going to feel like from one hour to the next never mind days.I started coughing in the Street the other day and sneezed(lots of building work going on) and all my right arm and chest was so god dam painful I could not belive how delicate (cant think of a better word) I have become at 45 OMG It quite scared me and as it is diffiuclt for me to commicate with people I hate it even if someone asks if I am ok as they hear me and think hes NOT ALL THERE Well keep in there do try some of my ideas I will keep you posted on anything else I think off. OH my favorite pastime dunking(which I think is awful rude for people to do)Bourbon biscuits in Coffee and yes I will eat the whole packet in one go so do not buy often Have a good day Paul |

Paul I didn't think you were being frivolous at all going shopping. If I am in the right mood I love it but usually it is
a chore to be borne with as good grace as I can muster. These coughing fits are really really embarrassing and happen out
of the blue/ The last one I had was in the restaurant car in the train coming back from Scotland. Stupidly I was toying with
a bread roll and a crumb was stuck in my . The attendant thought I had a fish bone stuck and was going to give me one of
thwese life-saving grapples which sometimes knock you out when my daughter explained that it was quite common and would soon
stop.
But the nice man kept trying to give me water and so on and that made me worse. I'll certainly try your pasta as I desperately need some protein. Try not to be too despondent Paul. You must go on that trip to India to refresh your mind. This is going to be a very strange letter because bits keep floating in from three lines back. Off to read my Tai Chi book.
