As previously posted, I had radical neck section in April 2006 followed by 36 radiotherapy fractions and seven chemotherapy treatments. Generally I felt all right.
Then in January I attended a New Year's party at which there was a snivelling child and his equally infected mother. Immediately I adopted their symptoms. These have not left me despite the Rhinocort nasal spray (a micro powder), prescribed by my doctor. Does anybody know any other remedies, including folk remedies (please tell me I can eat lots and lots of garlic) that will see of this irritating symptom. Best regards Robert WT (Yes, it's still raining in Ireland!) |

Strangely since my treatment I have been very lucky and have not contracted a cold of any sort.I have been trying to put my mind to whether its anything in my diet that has radically changed. No red meats, virtually no alcohol and no bread. I now eat a lot more seafood and take more herbal supplments such as green tea drinks and tablets.Mind you I have not been out that much either |

Hi Robert
I hate to do this to you (my family would go right off if they knew I was putting this in writing because it's my mantra everytime one of them sniffs or coughs!) Have you tried steam inhalations? A teaspoon of eucalyptus oil in a bowl of boiling water four hourly. I know some people put their head under a towel and just about kill themselves from the vapour but really you don't need to do that. Sit at the table and just place the bowl near the edge, under your face and breath the steam in through your nose. You will feel it doing you good as you breath it in a little deeper with each breath. Every few inhalations take the vapours right down into your lungs. Do it gently and you will feel it spreading through your lungs. Envigorating and soothing. This is a great remedy and should be started at the very first sign of a sniffle or 'coldy' head. The heat will kill the bugs that are up your nose and the eucalyptus will open and sooth your airway. I never, repeat NEVER get a cold (I hope I'm not jinxing myself here!) because if I think there's one lingering I give it the old heave ho with the above. Usually it should clear up any mess within 24 to 48 hours if it already has a hold on your system. Good luck and please keep me posted. Love Deborah |
