Hi I was reading Tumour Diary: Awkward Questions and wondered how some of you have handled this dilemma in your families. It must be very difficult to know what and how to tell a child. Dr. Joshi, I had to tell my 2 children. Jamie Lynn was 13 and Shane was 9. It was very difficult as my moma had passed away of CANCER, thou they both did not remember her, they had seen me cry over the years, missing my moma. So to them CANCER meant---DEATH! I had to tip-toe around this. I had to put my fears, tears and thoughts to the side for now. I had to think about them. I didn't lie to them, I told them everything that I thought they could handle at that time. They didn't need to know everything. I told them about the surgery that I was to have, then they witnessed the aftermath of it all. We did very well with it that time.. The next two were worse........ON all of us...Vicki Lynn | |||
