Just been for an appointment with the oncologist, to be informed that the cancer in my neck has grown again. This they found in the planning setion for the radiotherapy. So only 7 weeks after my radical neck dissection, the cancer has grown again. Not what I wanted to hear !!! This now means I have to go in for an intensive course of Chemotherapy starting on the 11th October, followed by an increased dose of radiotherapy for the following 6 weeks, with 2 further doses of chemo during the radiotherapy. Looks like I'm in for a rough ride, but if it beats the cancer, it's worth it.

Has anybody else had such a fast re-growth? If so what was the outcome?

Hi Parky - well mine's not a recurrence of head & neck but rather lung. They're not sure whether or not it's secondary, but like you I'm due to start chemo October 11 in Bradford. That's subject to me having had a CT scan this week.

My original cancer was of the tongue and I had a total glossectomy with radical neck dissection followed by radiotherapy and that was 3 years back. No problems at all until this new hit.

Maybe see you Monday, surely there won't be too many there with neck dissections ?

Hi Pikeman, Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm going into Cookridge Hospital in Leeds, so we wont see each other this time. Maybe we can put that on a back burner for later, it would be nice to see others who have gone through this. Good luck !!!

Parky And Pikeman, I wish I had the proper words at this time, however I find myself at a loss. Confused My heart is just breaking for the two of you. The tears just won't stop falling. All of us on here that have had any type of procedure done to get this monster out of us, are praying to GOD that this very thing doesn't happen to us. :sigh: To hear that it is happening to you only makes this fear so real. Dammit I am so mad at this disease. Mad LORD look at what we have all allready been thru. You would think we would get a break! But no it just keeps slaping us around, scans and scans and more scans. It is like the just look and look until they find something. :banghead: I want you to know this, I am so proud to have gotten to know all of you on this site. It doesn't matter that I have never met you and never will. You have forever touched my heart and I pray that I have touched yours. For now I am off here with a heavy heart wondering-----WHY? Always Vicki Lynn

Dear Parky

So sorry to hear your news.

My husband's cancer came back in July about 6 weeks after finishing his radiation following surgery (removal/rebuilding of tongue and removal of lymph nodes). The original cancer was in tongue (removed in February) and it came back in his jaw.

He started chemo in July (3 cycles) and has just changed to another drug as despite good visual indicators, an MRI scan showed the cancer was still spreading. it's too early to tell if this one is working yet. He's getting all the side effects, so hopefully it is doing something!

He's been in hospital for the last 10 days with the side effect (hopefully back home tomorrow) but it'll all be worth it if it works!!

Good Luck - we'll be praying for you.
