Tongue irritation help!!

Hello all. i had a hemiglossectamy and radial forearm flap 3 1/2 years ago and have generally been very well since. however for the passed six months since my graft has relaxed and settled further i have been suffering an increasing amount of pain and discomfort from rubbing and irritation at the back of my mouth and side of my graft ? caused by my teeth. There are visable red sore areas. Some days the pain is worse than others. my consultant states i do not have nerve endings so there should be no pain but there is and this can often radiate to my ear. Ive had my teeth rounded but this has not helped. Does anyone else have any ideas or similar experiences or should i just accept this to be the status quo?

Hi Amy

Hey, our flaps are roughly the same age. My Flappy was installed on 4 February 2005.

Has your doctor done a biopsy or any other tests lately? If you've got visible sores, and pain--especially pain in your ear--there's a problem. If this doctor isn't able or willing to help you, please try to see someone else.

My doctor took great delight in checking to see about nerve endings in my flap--he broke a swab in half and proceeded to stab my tongue at varying distances. Nerve endings have, indeed, grown in from my native tongue.

I was having a lot of pain in my flap until last fall when I finally got what was left of a molar removed. The tooth was very sharp and at an odd angle. Getting that tooth removed really did the trick.

I hope it all goes well for you.

Julia

Hi Amy

Haven't heard from you in a while. I was just wondering if you'd seen a doctor about the pain you've been having. Are you ok?

Julia
