I am married to a man who was once so vocal but the throat cancer has taken that away. I am so worried about him. He was a man who could not sit around he was always busy doing something now he does not get out of the recliner.

Hi Terry
Just wanted to say hello, I'm in a similar situation, although Paul had a laryngectomy in June 04, the tumour has come back, so he had started chemo to try and shrink it, but he's now in a hospice with severe depression. It's been a nightmare two years, he was a teacher and very sociable, and he's practically become a recluse. We just take one day at a time, we have two children who sometimes find it very hard to cope, but I try not to get too stressed and to deal with what I can and ignore the rest. If you want to chat, my e-mail is jennifersankey@hotmail.com.

Terry, Had a cancer cut off my tongue June 25 th.last year, finished my treatments in Oct.
Started drinking my Glucerna 3 weeks ago and they took out my Peg past Wednesday. Now I'm trying to eat also.
I lost 50 lbs. (went from 230 to 180) I,ve come back 5 lb's and getting stronger little by little.I do a little but not much because I don't feel like it, but I can tell I'm doing
better.
I talk funny, but get things across. My friends don't come around much and it's because
of Cancer, they just don't know how to express themselves and feel funny being in my presence.
I am going on with the hand dealt me anyhow. We are going to vist with friends in England
April 5 th. for 3 weeks.
I feel your husband hasn't give over, he's just
waiting for the body to deal with what it's been through.
I'm a male 69 years old.
Hang in there.
Lindy

Welcome Terry to RDOC. I am so sorry to hear this about your loving husband. He sounds like he is depressed, big time. It is okay to have a pity party as long as you don't live in it. I know, been there, done that..!! It is so hard tho to pick yourself up and to go on. It is just so hard to do. I would think it would be harder on the man, I say that because they are supposed to be the STRONG ones. Then "BAMM" something like this happens. My cousin was just diagnosed with CANCER and this is what he said about it. That is why I said that. Hold him, love him, reassure him that no matter what that he is the LOVE of your life. Somehow tho you need to get him up and out of that chair!! You tell him that another CANCER victum said that. The way I look at this is that I don't know how many precious days I have left, I want to live them to the last minute..What part of TEXAS are you from,,I have a lot of relatives there,..GOOD LUCK WITH THIS>>>Always Vicki
