I am 6 months post-treatment and concerned about a lesion in my mouth. I had my regular follow-up appoinment with my oncologist last Friday. I have a firm white lump in my inner lowerlip, my oncologist was concerned and sent me to an ent, whom I have never seen before, since my usual guy is on vacation. He said he was not emotional about it and it was a cyst and if the cancer were to reoccur it wouldn't be there it would be on the tongue, where the original cancer was. After reading about reoccurences, I know this may or may not be true. If I had listened to the first ent who ever examined me I would no longer be above ground, he gave me mouthwash for stage 3 scc of the tongue and sent me on my way. I don't feel confident about this doctor's lax attitude. Should I have it biopsied? It is normal to get white patches around the mouth after radiation, but I've had this one for a couple of weeks and it went from a soft blister to a firm white lump, does this sound like a cyst? Does anyone have any advice? I'd appreciate it greatly. Thanx and best regards to all.

I don't think it is a recurrence but it is not possible to give a diagnosis over the Internet. It might be a blister that's resorbed leaving thickened tissue or it might be a cyst. However, I would suggest a biopsy to remove it and to know what it is for your peace of mind.

Let us know how you get on.
