Hi all, First time i've posted on this website and was hoping somebody might be able to help. My partner had a modified neck dissection a couple of months ago and a partial glausectomy (God how I wish we had never had to learn these words or their meanings....) and the results came back that RT wasn't necessary which was a blessed relief. However little issues continue to prey on the mind and one is that she has a lump right on the scar which is not painful and does not move. I believe it to be scar tissue but the absense of pain is of some concern. Does anyone else have 'lumpy' scars that are not painful. Her main concern is that it is a swollen lymph node with the attendent potential reappearence of the cancer, quite understandably. Her ENT specialist a couple of weeks ago said that he would keep an eye on it and she is seeing him again for the monthly checkup on the 3rd sep but in the meantime just wanted some if any reassurance.

Best to all and thanks for reading.

M

Hi M
Welcome to MCF
i see you are from Surrey so i guess you are being seen at the Royal Surrey.Who is the Doctor? Were all the lymph nodes clear at surgery?
Lumps on neck scars are very common, but certainly do need to be watched it is great for your partner that radiology wasn't needed but just remember its the reserve ammo in your arsenal in case of any problems. If you are seriously concerned ask for a scan or an ultrasoubd to put your mind at rest, but it sounds as if the doctors are fairly confident its nothing to worry about.
Trouble with oral cancer is you can never let your guard down its a dangerous enemy but you sound as if you are on the case.

good luck

Hi Liz,

All lymph nodes (29) were clear which was good, and we're keeping tabs on it. Surgeons name was Malcolm Bailey, at the Royal Surrey - a real Gent. Did you ever have the (dubious) pleasure of getting acquainted with our local hospital?
I really hope that raiding that ammo dump isn't needed.

Best,

Matt

PS I said he was ENT earlier but he's actually Maxillo Facial. My mistake. Smiler

Hi Matt

Rob was treated at The Royal Surrey and at Saint Lukes,at the time we lived in Grayshott. He was under Mr Sudderick the head and neck specialist.Rob wasn't one of the lucky ones Matt but there is a dad who posts on here called David Smith, and his daughter was very successfully treated by Mr Bailey. David speaks very highly of him so thats good news and his daughter is just about to return to work, a real success story and so young.Fingers crossed for you and your girl Matt but seriously my signature line says it all lol.

Love liz
