I cannot understand why Mouth & Neck Cancer does not get the publicity like say Breast Cancer and the like, I can only presume that if it has not succumed the rich or famous nobody hears about it.
So whos job is it to make people aware? The goverment should do their part The Media should relate the message to younger people I have heard many stories of young people getting Mouth & Neck Canncer but it is too late for them. If it was not for my dentist who is relativly young he was "clued in" I would not be here today, I had MANY visits to my GP a biopsy at the local hosptal which was negative and when I phoned a few week later as I had lumps in my neck the DEPARMENT had closed down,But really lucky for me as I ended up at in my opion one of the best Maxiollfacial Clincs at Middlesex. (UCH) one for my mates on the site I was in a car with a group of friends and one turned to the other and said "what does Paul do all day " the other replied "I think he does crosswords" "thats good it will keep his mind active" I was speechless! :banghead: |

Hi Paul
I quite agree, "we of lesser known fame" head & neck Cancers don't get the attention like Breast Cancers, I have sent Anne Kirkbride (Deidrie of coronation street) an awareness pin with a letter asking to promote "our cause" as she had a lump on her neck (you can see the scar on her left side) and other prominent people, such as, Tony Blair, Robert Kilroy Silk & Lorraine Kelly, you never know it may provoke some action |

Paul, going back to yours of Nov.2.
I've had a similar thing about turning into the invisible man. But, I did say "Hello, am I here or not, dick-heads". No similar probs since. But it does go back to that thing, did I used to be like that regarding people with any sort of disability before I was honoured with a visit from the "Crab". I hope not, but I do have the feeling that the true answer is "yes" I was just as unfeeling and ignorant as the guys I had a very slight problem with. |

Well Mike, Before I was struck down with the dreaded C I was working as a Disibility Advisor for a Charity for about 4 years(they want me back !)
I have seen every possible dissability either mental or Physical and by the time people get to us they are usually in a state of dispair from geting nowhere with all the red tape. So I have always known what it is like for people with disibilites, have taken the sick to Lourdes by boat and train that I suggest anyone should do if they want to know what it is like to live with a Disibility. To get on the train in France is at least 4 feet from the ground and it takes four people to put one chair on the train. The we have to get them in their bunks for the overnight journey from Calais to Lourdes and then we reverse the procedure again.peoples attide really makes me want to stop speaking to them. |

Once again I agree with you both about attitudes, but it's all down to ignorance, i.e people not being AWARE I must admit I propably was once one of those people :bomb:
