Hi Everyone,
Had my last radiotherapy treatment yesterday. It's been 6 long weeks. My mouth, tongue and throat are full of very painful ulcers that make eating and speaking difficult. Haven't had to use my PEG - managing to survive pretty well on soft food, soups and ensure ( I was 92K before my surgery in July and I am 87 K now so I have done well at maintaining my weight). That apart no real problems - skin is red but not painful, taste is still O.K. and I have not really experienced any dry mouth though I do suffer at night coughing up horrible thick mucous. So all in all I have done pretty well I think. I hope that my ulcers will clear in the next few weeks and then it will be all about improving my speach (sounds a bit vain I know, but as a teacher my voice is so important to me) I have a follow up booked for 13 Dec - no doubt I will get the jitters about that as it approaches but I know I am going to have to get used to the monthly checks. I'm being used in trials for a scar reduction gel too (lucky me!) - I'll let you all know how it goes and whether it is effective or not. Bye for now. NormS. "It's Tough being Tough" |

Hi Norm
Well done for getting to the end of treatment. Your symptoms sound spot on and I know you already know that you will continue for 2 to 3 weeks to suffer from the radiotherpay effects as if you were still having it. I reacall expecting to feel so much better by the Tuesday following only to feel even worse. That mucous hangs on for some time but does slowly improve. What burn gel are they trialing? |
