Ally's reply on PEG advice - ThanksGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
Hi and a big thanks to you guy's that replied so promptly to my question an a PEG. I am going to print your replies and take them into dad tomorrow to read for himself! Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions, I was so happy leaving him in the hospice last night then when I get in this morning, mum tells me that he has had a bad night, he was very agitated and had asked the nurse to phone me at 3am this morning as he wanted me there, mum caught the nurse in time to tell her not to but I said the next time just to let me come through (it would make me feel better even if nothing else). I can't praise the hospice enough though as they are looking after him so well and mum is so relieved to be able to hand the heavy responsibility of medication to them (although she will deny it) and she can go back to being a loving wife the role that she was born for. I wish he had gone in before now and had the PEG fitted 5 years ago when he stopped being able to eat comfortably but that is one of the problems living away up in the highlands they seem to be a bit behind everywhere else! I had a word with the doctor and asked him what he thinks, he told me that he thinks it is predominantly the infection and dehydration that is causing the problems and he doesn't think that he is in the latter stage of this disease yet, which is good news but you don't want to get your hopes up too much. Hopefully we can get him through the next week or so to get better enough to be able to make an informed decision. Chelle, I've just read your post on actimel and so wish i had made dad take that when he was able, when the doctor looked in his mouth yesterday she said she has never seen such a bad case of thrush. He takes the Fluconazole regularly but it doesn't seem to stop it. If anyone else has any suggestions on thrush then please let me know although he has real problems trying to take anything orally now! Thanks for reading Ally

Ally, fingures crossed things start to ease up a little and they can get your dads side effects under control soon. Fluconazole didn't work for me either. The only thing that seems to work for me is the Actimel. & i know people on here swear by the suppliment Threelac, but i don't know if it comes in a liquid form. If your dad does get the peg he could have an Actimel through the PEG. Just flush it well afterwards.
