Lump In MouthGo ![]() | New ![]() | Find ![]() | Notify ![]() | Tools ![]() | Reply ![]()
I discovered a painless white lump on the inside of my bottom lip, at the beginning of December. I visited the Dr's 3 times and my dentist as well, eventually at the end of January I was referred to an Oral Surgeon at a local hospital. As no-one knew what the lump could be. After 4 weeks of chasing the hospital I have been told that the very earliest I will get seen is the end of March / beginning of April as my referral is not a priority. In the meantime the lump has doubled in diameter to almost a centimetre. Does anyone have any advice??? Is it usual for it to take so long to be seen. I realise I could be well worrying about nothing but I just want to get things sorted & stop worrying.

Abbi, I would suggest you go back to your GP as soon as you can, and tell him that the lumpo has got bigger. He will probably write to the ENT and ask for an urgent appointment so that you get seen sooner. I hope it turns out to be OK. Jenni

Good Evening Abbi, You may well be worrying about nothing and I hope that turns out to be the case, but no one can afford to take chances so I think you should revisit your doctor/dentist and point out three things:- 1) the lump is getting bigger 2) You are far from satisfied that you have been refered as a non urgent case 3) you are extreemly worried about the problem. Perhaps you should also mention that the advice on changes in the mouth is "if they don't clear up in three weeks you should seek professional advice".This problem is now ongoing for ten weeks and since the first line professionals ( GP & dentist) don't know what the problem is but they refered you to the oral surgeon then it needs clearing up in the short term and should not be left on hold any longer. I am a cancer patient living in West Yorks and I visit the oncology clinic every four weeks, I can not fault the system and can not understand why you have not been seen before now.Which hospital have you been refered to? Please keep us posted on your progress. Keep Smiling John

Many thanks for your advice, I have made another appointment with my GP and have taken all your advice on board will try & push to get seen quicker. John, My referral was to an oral surgeon at the Leeds Dental Institute. All your advice if much appreciated. Many thanks

Good Morning Abbi, I have no knowledge of Leeds Dental,my regular visits are to Pinderfields (Wakefield).I spent two weeks in the LGI almost exactly three years ago, so that the experts could sort out a cancer in my lower jaw.The buildings on both sites are old and not very functional but I can not fault the people who work there, they are as good as you will find. I will keep my fingers crossed that everything turns out OK for you, please let us know how you get on. Keep Smiling John
