WEll the trip was long but I was with my sweetie so it was nice, I didn't get the trache out..My throat is just not healed enough for it to be removed, in other words, I couldn't breathe on my own..Bummer. But Ric and I did talk to my Doc about funding for the cancer sites so we can get this out in the front..All you hear about is Breast, Lung and Prostrate cancer. Oral cancer is so big yet you never hear about it--well not that much..So he is a big on funding and he gave us a name of a doctor that was a doctor of a actor..I am going to contact him and see where to go from there, who knows... Plus my Dr. wanted to know all about the site, this one and the USA one...Wouldn't that be great to have the funding to get this out in the open,,,I will do what I can.. Thank you Paul,,for wishing me well...He said that it is going to take me at least 2 years to recover because of the radiation...It just cooked my tissue..So I can stop thinking that it will be anyday soon,,cuz it isn't going to be,,Which is very upsetting for me..But there is not a thing I can do about it..So--------until then I will use this time to make efforts to make us known--any suggestions???????????? Let me know. Okay. Always Vicki Lynn

You are right Vicki all we ever hear about is breast cancer etc.
I have found noone understands the term occult cancer unless they have read up on cancer. They immediately think if you have throat cancer that you smoke like atrooper and drink like an alcoholic. I wish that it was more known that you can just be damned unfortunate and get this head and neck disease not ever having smoked nor drank much. You mention an actor - I think it was Yul Brunner that had head and neck cancer. I am sorry to hear that the doc thinks it will be 2 years before you fell more ok, yet in many ways that's good news that he sees a great future for you. I expect that is another appointment you are glad is over. |

Vicki dear, well that is another bridge you've crossed although it is a shame that there are more to get over. You are such a great girl, and an example to me every time I feel sorry for myself.
I felt very neglected on my own at the weekend. And then I realised that I had told everyone to go and enjoy themselves in the sun because I wanted to read a good book in the hammock. That's what they did. So why the self-pity! I think it's a great idea to bring more awareness of the head and neck cancer to the public. Well certainly to give the sufferers more of a platform, more places where they can get together and talk about it. If there's anything I can do, or letters to prepare, I am only too happy to share the workload. Shame about still having that attachment. But as Pauline says they are optimistic about the end result. My tissues took such a bashing that they will never be the same again. There is still so-o-o- much research to be done into radiotherapy. Why don't you take a doctorate in it Vicki? Knowing you, that's completely possible! All the best Ishbel |
