Hi all,

It's a holiday weekend in the USA (president's Day). Is this the reason for the silence on the forum from USA? What's the reason in the UK?

Hi Cat,

Second attempt, first refused by server. I am flying back to UK today. This when Paul (London Paul) flies out to Las Vegas for his holiday.

I have enjoyed my holiday but throughout still had regular times of tiredness. This probably due to eating insufficient. I have no apetite so find it hard to eat.

It is now one year since I first noted my sore throat. Five moths since end of radiotherapy. Remaining symptoms: Limited taste buds, limited saliva, difficulty swallowing but no sore throat, Often mouth dryness.

I have not returned to my original energy level I regret to saY. I AM HOPEFUL THAT I MAY BE THERE IN ALL RESPECTS IN ANOTHER YEARS TIME....IF NOT SOONER.

However, overall I am still counting myself among the lucky ones.

I hbope Paul enjoyed his flight! Regards, Fridge

Paul,

How was your flight trip to Las Vegas? I landed this morning at Heathrow (what a trashy airport forever undergoing construction and a shocking first impression of the UK to travellers).

The landscape was lightly snow covered and the temperature ZERO!

I left a very rainy Carmel Valley. It has been raining for a few days coming from the south west and, so say the met men, moving into Nevada so no doubt Las Vegas got some.

I had a good flight back and managed some airline food. Snoozed but no real sleep on the 10 hour trip.

Now for my next 'follow-up' check on 1st March with radiotherapist and then my 6 monthly dental appointment on 14th March. My full concentration now back to my ailment.

My regards to all, fridge

Hi Cat,

I am sorry to hear that you do not have holidays anymore. In my retirement I live for them. Prior to this sickness I was a right tearaway going on trip after trip in UK, USA and Europe. However, with a lower energy level I have had to limit the frequency of such trips.

A little more about my next 'follow up' visit to oncologist on 1st march: I will be asked how I feel. To my reply, Fine! I will have throat examined and hear the declaration: Looks great! (UNLESS....AARGH, something gone wrong. But this not likely).

Of course what I desparately would like to hear him say is: 'Cured, all gone'. He cannot and would not say this, nor would I expect him to say so or believe him if he did. Such is the capriciousness of this disease.

Everything tells me that I am doing well and I am hopeful that I will eventually be fully recovered with my full energy level restored. But what a journey it will have been and to think of all the courageous people I have come across (RDOC particularly). All very humbling.

Wishing well to you Cat, Fridge

PS. Visiting Scotland on 5 March for daughter's birthday. F

Fridge,

How did you go about organising insurance for the trip. I have tried to get insurance for the USA, and currently I am quoted £2,500 for a 2 week trip. I have finished all my treatment 3 months since, so I don't see why it should be so expensive.

Parky,

Are you over 100 years of age?? (joke!) Otherwise I cannot understand how your insurance can be so high.

I recommend you visit an insurance BROKER. They are around. If you go for such a short period why not use insurance cover as available at the airport.

Typically my cost was GBPound200.00p plus for 5 months coverage issued by Lloyds of London through the broker.

Good luck in the future. Regards, Fridge
