tranplant of jaw

2 years after a mouth cancer, with ablation of half a jaw and part of the palate, I wonder if I should ask for transplant to have a new jaw and palate.
Whocan tell me more about that kind of surgery: is it painful, is it long to recover, is it worth doing this, etc...?

Hello Vincent

It would be great if surgical techniques were advanced enough so that you could have a transplant to have a new jaw and palate. I don't think we are there yet. Conventionally, the defect in the palate will need the fitting of a special plate ( prosthetic obturator ) that replaces the missing teeth and seals the defect into the nose to allow eating and drinking. Dental implants are useful in assisting with retention of the plate. Do speak to your doctor about treatments available.

Best wishes
