Hi all

It was my son's last R/T today, I know he still has a long way to go and things won't get better for a while but so good to know this part of his journey is over. 1st check up is in six weeks time

Love to you all

Mum

Hello Mum hope you have district nurses from the GP Practice on his case if he feels unwell. They are very good at ensuring instant prescriptions for everything from burn gel to constipation medicine and best of all they give that daily connection that your son will have become reassured by and his frequent questions about any and everything with the radiotherpay technicians. Sudddenly when rads stops you are on your own and being on your own is sometimes a solitary feeling of wondering what now. The district nurses can help with that so much.

Thanks Angie & Pauline

Yes we have let district nurse know he is home. I don't know how but he is still forcing himself to eat what he can even it does take 2 hours to get through it!!!. Also been given the vitamin milk shakes from dietician who we saw at the end of R/T burns are still obviously very sore have been given a gel and I did get the radiance gel for him. Throat too again you all know what it's like. Pauline was sorry to hear about your mother, my dad died unexpectantly in his sleep about halfway through my son's treatment. So hard to grieve for him and cope with my son's illness at the same time. At the time it was complete madness for me. Arranging flowers & sorting out my dad's affairs, funeral etc in the mornings and taking my son down hospital in the afternoons for R/T

Love
Mum

Condolences to you too, that must have been awful to deal with in the middle of worrying about your son. I think grief is different for everyone but we all know that numb feeling of feeling something is missing, of going to ring someone who was once there just for a chat about nothing and stopping in your tracks. And yes having to arrange a funeral and plan hymns music and write a eulogy is the last thing you feel like doing at anytime but must have been very hard for you.
In fact it's not unlike some aspects of the cancer situation. The whole thing takes on a surreal feel as if it should be a dream, with someone else starring in it, but somehow it's life.

Hope your son mends soon, but make sure he has a sun hat as the sun is picking up.

Hope dreadful for you to have to cope with your dad's death and in the middle of your son's treatment. How on earth did you cope I bet the shock put you on auto pilot.

Are you your son's only carer? it is important you take care of yourself too.
