Hi all got home on Wednesday .Paul competed his round 2 of 30 RT's and did well .Completely different from last time with minimal discomfort .We were out every day sight seeing in London as his Rt was not till 5pm in the evening. He just had a small red patch on cheek and main problem has been his left ear which is a bit burny and swollen inside so he is deaf at the momenas it keeps taking an infection which they said was to be expected .He is on Antibiotics at moment and this should subside as swelling and healing takes place over the coming weeks .His ear is not painful just a bit leaky and red .Because of this we had to take train home instead of flying but was a pleasant journey.

We have to go back to London at end of July so they can check things out and then I think will be passed back to our own clinic here in Scotland.

The hospital and staff were superb and are so relieved we did not have the same problems as last time .Our daughters wedding was a great day and now we are home have just seen the video and photos etc .Paul's mum had her operation for bowel cancer while we have been away and has recovered well, but still may need to give her some chemo therapy .

We will have a catch up with all the posts later to day ,it is so good to be home in our own beds .

Best wishes to all ,

Bell and Paul.

Will have a catch up with posts later to see how everyone is doing

I am so glad to hear from you! Every time I signed on I was hoping you'd posted.

Am glad that Paul found IMRT easier - I know that my experience was so much different than most of the posters, but then worried that I'd over-exaggerated the benefits. I had very few mouth problems and now they're totally gone - the only thing I have left is fatigue and that's very slowly lessening.

I hope he gets through the infection and that his ear clears up.

Take some time to breathe and get through the million spam messages you've probably accumulated and let us know how it's going.

Mimi

Hi Mimi ,couldnt understand why we were not getting the usual postings in from forum and was so shocked when we read about Brenda.have been sorting out mail box and have found I was too gallous with the spam blocker before we left trying to avoid a build up of junk mail and inadvertantly had blocked the web site so I am now catching up through site .

Paul is suffering from fatigue but this has only started in last couple of days since we got home and treatment finished .His ear leaking and deafness is annoying him greatly but still on anti biotics and have been told we need to wait for internal swelling to go down .

Not sure whether other problems may arise over the next few weeks in the form of stiffness in jaw etc but at least this time his mouth has remained fully operable and he just has one tiny ulcer on top pallette.

This time the mouth care was different and they gave him a 300mg dissolvable aspirin which you dissolve in small amount of water then add 20mls of raspberry mucillage then you just rinse hold and spit, seems to be very effective .also when the buring on and behind Pauls ear got a little nasty they gave him a small bottle of Flavoline whih u popped a cotton bud in and dabbed round area that was breaking .it was great stuff and the area heald up really quickly but again burning was nothing like last time either .

How long have you had the fatigue now Mimi ? and how soon did it start post treatment as Paul was fine till treatment finished .For the whole 6 weeks we were out every day sightseeing and ate out then went to our room at 7pm and that was us for night.Mainly because accomodation provided by hospital was handy but not ideal .Bit like sharing a house with strangers and bathroom and kitchen was shared. There were 5 floors with 4 small double rooms on each .

All the patients in the house were mainly Spanish and Gibraltan and were never out the kitchen cooking so getting cupboard space and using oven etc was really a mine field !!! so won a watch there as Paul was able to eat out .

We go back down for a check up end of july then will be passed back to Scotland to our original clinic I hope, unless there is a problem with his ear .

Great to be back home and thank you for thinking about us .

Bell.

Hi Bell,
Good to see you back and i'm so pleased things have been a little easier going than last time!
Now you have to play that horrible waiting game til you get the results. So i'm still keeping everything crossed for you both!

How are YOU baring up?

I expect the fatigue may stem from all the travelling back. It's hard work!

My love to you both,
Michelle

Hi Chelle ,great to hear from you .The fatigue is just from the RT but not horrendous this time and the main bug bear is his ear which has taken the brunt of burning so the deafness and recurent infections will hopefully heal in time . His mouth and throat have benn ok this time and only one tiny spot at back of mouth so a huge difference .We go back down end of July so they can check out his ear swelling etc is healing .Will see what they say then. There will not be any results as London says ther was no growth but have targeted an area with the 30 sessions of Imrt where the biopsy showed recurrent cells but no growth .

Because he has now had this treatment done for a second time scans will be inconclusive .They have disagreed with Glasgow about a pea shaped growth and have said that this is why they have irradiated the area where the biopsy was done .

So the only way to be sure is to do a second biopsy in the future to check, but this has not been mentioned .Paul feels he is happy to let things be and just carry on with the usual clinic visits and scope which is all clear .

So lovely to hear from you and please keep in touch .How is the business going ? and please try not to worry about your check up .

love Bell .
