Can anyone tell me about eating after the removal of salivary glands - my brother is going to have radiation treatments with a laser He was told by the doctor that things will taste different - he is convinced that this will affect his taste buds and that he will never enjoy eating again - Is that true - he is pretty sad about this but grateful he is getting treatment please e-mail me if you have had similar experiences - and he is going to have a feeding tube put in because the doctor says his mouth will be too sore to eat -I am at scoop_legare@yahoo.com

Hi Scoop, Your brother will have a bit of a battle with these issues unfortunately. My husband still finds it hard to swallow, he finished treatment in Februay this year. He always has a drink with him at meal times to help push food down, never goes anywhere without a bottle of water. He does have his taste buds back, that wasn't much of a problem for him, it returned a few months after treatment had finished. Apparently some get it back and some don't. I hope your brother will be one of the lucky ones. The feeding tube is a good idea during treatment as it does get pretty tough for awhile. Hope this helps a little for information and if I can answer anything else I will try. Hugs to your brother, Tracey
