My mum is in theatre right now.

Partial tongue removal, neck disection, graft from her arm - etc. etc. I am sure you know the procedures better than I.

Can I have all your positive vibes please.

Dear Winnie,
In the first instance I am really sorry for all that your mum is going through. Being very honest - as I said if a shoulder is needed I am always around and to add a little more - if I could take her pain, I would willingly do so and this goes to each one of you wonderful people here. After the battering my body has taken I really do think if there is any more kind of pain, both physical and emotional I would take it all as nothing hurts anymore.
Take care and my best wishes are always there with you.
Ananth

Hi, Winnie,

Hope things are going well for your mum. I've had two fairly major doses of surgery - not to my tongue but one to remove cancer in my jaw and one in my cheek. It is gruelling and I'm sure it's just as hard to watch someone close to you go through it. 18 months down the line from my second op, I have to say I'm feeling better than I have in about 3 and a half years, eating pretty well, my speech is apparently OK (although I notice a difference). I'm sure your mum can get there.

All the very best to you both
Love
Sue

Thank you everyone.
It went well although seeing her for the first time was a shock to the system, more than I would have ever believed and only today has my mood lifted to one of hope and gratitude.

She hopes to get the trachy tube out today - one week later, having already had all her other pipes removed (apart from the feeding tube up her nose).

She's been up and about and according to her consultant is making a "perfect recovery". There's a long way to go, but I am now able to feel a little positive.

Thanks everyone - I will keep you posted
