All my dear friends,
You all must have noticed I really have not been on the net for a few days now and its all thanks to a very strong seizure that I got on the 30th. of June. I had gone in for a shower when I suddenly began feeling dizzy and decided to sit down till the sensation passed. However, the sensation did not pass and instead I landed up getting a massive seizure.
It was a strange feeling as though a certain part of my brain was controling the rest of my body and was not allowing any of the parts to move. My legs, arms abd body became so stiff that it scared the daylights out of my wife and both my sons.
My wife, Sonya, without any delay called up one of my treating doctors who was at a party and he left the party almost at once to be by my side. He gave me some medicine for calming me down and then before leaving told my wife to get an MRI done the following morning. The next morning I went to my usual treating doctor who too got worried and after a lot of hesitation said I should go ahead with the MRI (The doctors are trying their best not to give or put me through any kind of radiation due to the massive overdose I had received during the course of my initial treatment in 2000).
The MRI done and on going through each of the pages/films - he could not find anything that could have triggered off such a seizure. He suggested I meet a nuero surgeon, and I did so. He on looking through the MRI's also decided that there was abs. nothing wrong and could find no reason for having got the seizure. I reminded him of the time when my left leg went limp for almost a month and I had to use crutches to walk and another time when my right arm did the same trick and again after a month came back to normal. I felt this could all be related to this seizure.
Well, I have got all the tests done and noone can find anything wrong. All these incidents are driving my doctors crazy as they have no answers for the last two happeneings in my life - the first in 2004 - January when I had blood rushing out from my mouth, nose and throat and the doctors gave up all hope as they just could not control the flow and I was loosing blood really fast. Its when I woke up from the semi coma I was in and saw the concern on all the family members who had gathered around my bed in the general ward, I was told that my chances of survival were almost nil and I really had enough of hospitals and all the pain and asked to be released so that I could be taken home to die on my own bed. The bleeding just stopped as it had begun and at that moment the MRIs' showed nothing and even a larynxscopy should everything clear - not even a scar. The doctors could not explain the experience then and this was the second instance.
Has anyone been through this kind of an experience? If so - would love to hear about it. However - I am back here on rdoc to get Russ to talk about the forthcoming cricket series, to pep up Paul and read all the inspiring stuff that all of you post so lovingly. All the posts go a long way to make a person feel better and they certainly lift the gloom that prevails very often.

Love you all and am really glad to be back.
Ananth

Hi Ananth,
Jees, you really go for it dont you! can you not get something simple, ha ha.
Don't know if this is the same thing or not but here goes-and no laughing anyone please!.
I am 50 at the end of this month, I have a sister Anne who is four years younger and another sister Sarah who is eight years younger.
Well since being teenagers we have all had this "thing" which we can't explain. We have had all the tests going and there is no medical explanation for it.
It starts with a stiffening of the neck muscles, then the spine feels like a steel rod has been inserted in it. Leg and arm muscles go into a sort of spasam and stay stiff or nearly impossible to move and sight goes into overdrive. It is the most weird feeling ever, you are so aware of it happening but can do nothing to stop it and sort of come out of yourself! It can last anything from a few seconds to a few minutes but at the time it seems like hours!. The stangest thing is that we each know when it is happening to one of the other sisters (I told you not to laugh) but we have actually answered phone calls to each other after an "episode" to say yes it was me "In One".
As I said we have not been given any medical reason for it. Yes I have cancer. My sister Sarah recovered from breast cancer but luckily for Anne she is fit and healthy.
What is the explanation, I don't know. It's even stranger when we know it is happening to the other sister. We always joked we must be witches. Want to join our coven?
Very bloody scarey when it happens though isn't it!

Dear Susie,
You bet when I do things its something right out of a comic book and the poor doctors just dont know what to do - laugh or cry! No half measures! I keep landing up with the craziest of things and they have no explainations for the same.
You know Susie, the symptoms you described are excatly what I felt - going stiff and though being aware of what was happening not being able to control it. I was taken aback but not really scared - well not as much my wife and sons were! I have accepted the fact that I am going to go through wierd things all of what remains of my life now - so just enjoy life as it is.

On the witches bit - I recall Macbeth - " When shall we three ( four?) meet again - in thunder, lightening or in rain. When the hurly burly is done that will ere set of sun......". Guess I could take you all up on your offer.

Susie - when is your birthday? I had asked folks to mention it in the column I created so at least we can wish each other for a new period in our lives. I know I will be spending a lot of money on the 28th. of July as its my wife's birthday. Await your reply and do say hi to your sisters - who I am sure you are very close to noticing how fondly you talk of them.

Take care and lots of love,
Ananth

Hi Ananth.
Big Grin Big Grin Wink. You must be the fouth person we have been waiting for, although I always expected it to be a girl. Joking of course, we were not waiting for anyone. I can't wait to tell my sisters though, that there is someone else who has "Been in One" At one time or another we have all felt pretty stupid, trying to explain the symtoms, then having tests and then being told there is nothing wrong! When we know that it is NOT natural to have an episode, for want of a better word, like that.
Question, Thinking do you get many static electrical shocks? Sometimes I can't touch cars, metal door handles, anything that will cause a static shock, sometimes they are really big and hurt like hell!. My sisters are the same and we have wondered if the seisure is some sort of discharge of electricity. Explaining why, when tests have been done, there is nothing to show. You seem to be quite a brainy guy, I'm not to stupid myself, perhaps we can work this out for ourselves!! I also wonder if Dr. Joshi might have an idea. Should we ask him?
Anyone else have a comment?

Dear Suzie,
Acradabra - here I am again!! I know what we can do - let me be Charlie and you three sisters be the Angels. What say?
Coming to your question - it is quite common to get these shocks when you touch metal ( like your car) and to the extent that even if you touch a person at times. This however has nothing to do with seizures. We build up the static electricity in our body in various ways. To give you an example is sitting on a sofa and keep rubbing your feet on the carpeting and you will find you are generating static. These are very normal and nothing to be worried of. I think I have heard of just one or so cases where the static electricity that had built up in a person went haywire and he was set on fire because ot it. Tests will not prove anything wrong as static vanishes in a short while leaving no traces. We can ask Dr. Joshi for his views and I do imagine he would give us a better reply then what I have penned down.
Lots of love,
Ananth

Dear Michelle,

I think I will accept the "Ananth's angels" bit as you have left me stumped this time!! I have this knack of picking up langauges quickly and its been a great help even as far as my Cancer went. I have been able to take on and teach quite a few students the langauges and that is a good way to make some money. I hate just sitting back and so my take on this.
I stand by a flying elephant - as we have them in plenty around. In fact we have a small colony about ten km from my place where they keep and mantain all the elephants they use for various occasions ( even weddings where the groom comes sitting on one!!!). I ,however, tend to keep away or look away when everr we are near that place as it hurts to see the lovely creatures all chained up.

Tons and tons of love Big Grin
Ananth

Well... apparently it brings you luck to be pooped on by a bird. So to be pooped on by an elephant - in theory - should make you the luckiest alive! Eeker

Thats food for thought. I know in India everyone will treat it as a good omen. Though I am an Indian by birth only - I have never ever been able to understand these religious sentiments of all the people. Its sickening to see people of various religions, castes going to war with each other on the smallest of issue. But then India would not be India if we were not so "democratic"!!!
