MRI Scan

Hello everyone, I had my first experience of an MRI scan today - and what an ordeal that was! I've had a number of CT scans before but nothing prepared me for this. I hated being confined around my head plus the straps around my body were pushing into my peg tube and the noise...dear Lord, does it have to be that loud. I was in there for the best part of an hour. The girls were delightful and put me at my ease, even asking what music would I like played - I opted for Beatles No1's - great choice she said.....I never heard a word for the pneumatic drill going on around both ears. Maybe I'm just being a whimp but I shan't be in a rush for a repeat performance. From a very deaf Brenda!

i had my first MRI scan a couple of months ago and also found it very difficult, i only had about 30 minutes but i do not know how i would have delat with 1 hour. I think the new MRI scanners are not so close to you so perhaps in time no one will have to go though this trumatic experiance.

Bye for now

John

Hi Brenda
Hope all goes well for the result, I remember when Paul had his second scan ( the first time he took one look at it and got off the bed!) he was holding my hand so tightly I lost circulation! It's an awful noise, if they can put silencers on guns why not on them! We didn't get a choice of music, it was nothing very inspiring!

I like them. If you close your eyes and try to meditate, after a while you start hallucinating. Just relax and make the most of it.

Perhaps the MRI is related to the degree to which we are claustrophobic? I was dreading the MRI, which lasted about 45 minutes. However, I really wasn't bothered by it~ even the noise. The biopsy, on the other hand was awful! I hope you get good results! Barb

Hello again, I went for the results of the MRI scan and was told that the cancer had spread to my skull. I will now move from my lovely Head and Neck Consultant and be referred to a Neurologist. He will look at the scan to see if the tumour is in a position where it can be removed, if not there seems nothing else to be done. I see him in Wednesday, so please say a prayer for me! with love Brenda x

Hi Brenda
Lots of prayers of course. Fingers crossed they can do something. Keep positive and keep hoping, maybe they can try chemo if surgery isn't an option? Will be thinking of you on Wednesday

Hello Brenda
I pray that the 'spread' behaves itself and causes you no problems. Let us know what the neuro says. Best wishes always.

Brenda,

Good luck in coping with what surely must be a frightening and challenging circumstance.
