Garance, wish I had the answer to that one. At least other CANCER'S can eat, talk, swallow, smile for there scars aren't seen like ours are. We have it the worst of all, do not get me wrong I wouldn't want any CANCER. NONE!!! But if I had to have it----------THIS IS NOT THE ONE I WOULD HAVE PICKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT IS FOR SURE!! You really don't hear anything about ORAL CANCER, not compared to prostrate, colon, ovarian and lung. We truly are the SHADOW PEOPLE. Doc what can we do to GET the WORD out?? Please let us know what we can do and I just know that all of us would do it. Wouldn't we????????Always Vicki Lynn

Hi Shadow people! Well, a little light is begining to shine The Mouth Cancer Foundation was formally launched today at the British Dental Trade Exhibition in London with the release of 5,000 balloons this evening at 5.15pm . The MCF was formed to increase the profile of Mouth Cancers and provide support for Mouth Cancer patients. The balloons each carry the message of mouth cancer awareness across Europe. The balloon reported to have travelled the furthest by Mouth cancer awarenessweek ( Nov 7-13) will win a delegate a vauable prize. Philips Sonicare also donated 3000 to MCF. There should be wide media coverage of the event in the dental press and hopefully the national press. The light is begining to shine - you won't be shadow people much longer. Best wishes Vinod :coffee: Founder, Mouth Cancer Foundation Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice. THIS IS FANTASTIC NEWS!!!!!!!!!!!

Is there anything to stop us making our own blue ribbons (by the hundreds) and giving them to all our friends and family etc and making our own donation to our own ENT hospitals? Or even having a """blue ribbon party""" getting everyone we can in for a """drink""" and getting them to make umpteen and put them into our dentist/doctor reception/local shops with a box for donations! All we need is lots of ribbon and tiny gold safety pins. Is this do-able Dr V? If so we need to know the shade of blue and need some professional wording to go with the collection box. Would anyone be interested? Cheers! Brenda B

quote:Brenda You have made a brilliant suggesstion! I have been thinking all week what I can do for this years mouth cancer awareness week (7-13th Novemeber) and generally for the mouth cancer cause. I am definately going to make some blue ribbons and hold """blue ribbon party""" during MCAW 2004, and donate the money to the Hospital where I was treated! I thank you for the inspiration.

Hello all, I am new to this fantastic website and message forum. I think your idea for the blue ribbons/ awareness event is a fantastic idea! I am Dental Nurse Adviser for Bradford South & West and Bradford City Primary Care Trusts (on Mr Joshi's turf)I would love to help organise a mouth cancer awareness event in conjunction with local dental practices! Please contact me Mr Joshi if you already have any thoughts about possible local initiatives. I am very keen to raise the profile of this illness amongst the dental staff in general practice. I have organised a free 'Dental Day' this Saturday 23rd October for 200 dental staff in Braford and Airedale incorporating speakers, trade stands and training organisations. This event is for dental staff only, please contact me for a ticket if you would like to attend. Linda

Oh Linda what I would give to be able to attend. However I am in the USA. Well looks like the BLUE ribbons are out....Hopefully BRENDA will see this posting and tell us where to go from here. This is her IDEA and I wouldn't want to take it from her. So Brenda let us know we will follow your lead,,,,Vicki
