I've kept up with Sharifah's blog for a variety of reasons: she's in Malaysia where I worked for a year in the late Nineties; she went to college in the US which made us both familiar with one another's culture. She's a wife and a Mom and a teacher; she's cute (as she's willing to admit), has a great number of friends that rally around her, and has an indomitable spirit that I admire and admit that I often lack.

My cyber-friend is having some difficulty now. Please read her blog and her latest adventure with the PEG.

Sharifah Blog

This is in one of her latest postings:

Here are my wishes in life:

1. Be able to speak clearly.

2. Be able to enjoy food like before.

3. Be able to go for haj next year.

4. Be cancer free.

She hasn't posted here in a while but I think it would be uplifting to post some words of encouragement on her blog. She's a sweetheart.

Hi! Mimi, for Sharifah,
some people wish for things selfishly and some wish for the well being of others and a bit for themselves I feel Sharifah is Not selfish in her wishes for herself and I hope that some of her wishes in life come to fruition, many of these wishes are similar to other members of the Forum and I truly wish that their wishes also come true.
Bless you Sharifah and Mimi for your support of her cause.
Love Trev

Before my reconstructive surgery I could barely talk for about 18 months and eating has never been the same since the first op I had. These things that are taken for granted by most make such a difference to life, I hope Sharifahs wishes come true. Hagg.

Hello guys,

Thank you very much for all your support especially in wishing that all my wishes come true. Thanks also for dropping by my blog. It means a lot to me.

Actually, I was inspired to put my wishes on my blog after reading a book "The Secret" by Rhonda Byrne and after watching the Oprah show about postive thinking. Tell the whole world what you would like to happen in your life.

I am still having problems eating. Finished my chemo and r/t on 21st nov. Most food still taste bitter and bland. Speaking wise, I think I am improving because now, I don't have to repeat myself that often over the phone.

Mimi, thank you for starting this thread. Didn't know that I've been missed...haha. FYI, I do come to this blog everyday to see how everyone's doing.

Dr. Vinod, your short note on my blog is very encouraging. Thanks.

Trev and Hagg, thanks for your kind thoughts and I truly wish that your wishes will come true too!

Love and hugs from Malaysia.
Sharifah

Okay guys, our very own Sharifah is in the hospital as i write. she will be in surgery for a PEG tomorrow.

Please project some positive thoughts her way. Just like many of us, she has been through a lot and continues to be tested...... of course with Sharifah the more she gets tested the harder she fights....

She has been and continues to be an inspiration for many of us......

As Dr. J. suggested, I revisited her site after neglecting it for a week or two. On the left side of the screen she has links to several very moving, very honest blogs that I found to be interesting, helpful and motivational.

Sharifeh, how's the wish list coming along? I see #1, 3 and 4 happening but don't know what to think about #2. I almost enjoy food like before, but not quite.

How are the boys?

Hello,

Thanx Dr J and Mimi for following my blog and dropping comments. These days I've been quite busy with the household chores and keeping my teenage boys on track. However, I do peek at this forum almost everyday to check on every body.

Mimi, about my wish list, yes, I can speak rather clearly and able to hold a telephone conversation with family and friends. #2, enjoying food, no, not yet and thanks to my Peggy, I have now put on weight.

#3, I'm hoping to go for haj next year. And #4, I'm still cancer free which really pleased my docs during my last follow up. Thank god.

My boys are ok. They really enjoy my cooking and they can make out 95% of what I say to them especially the scolding part...haha

Thank you so much for keeping me in your thoughts.

Lots of love and a bear hug,

Sharifah

Hello Sharifah
Great to hear that you are doing well. Congratulations.
I don't look anywhere else on the net ~ I seem to take so long just checking out the 'mail' on the forum each day, I'd never get a thing done if I got into anything else!
Don't you just love teenagers. It matters not whether they understand you ~ they do their darndest to avoid hearing what you say anyway!!!
You take care
Love
Deborah

Hello Deb,

I'm glad that you are doing great yourself after Trev's passing. I think I've read somewhere that you are flying down to London. When is that going to be? That sounds like fun. Wish I could do that too.

You are really a caring and loving person. You keep on checking on us even after Trev has gone. Trev was very fortunate indeed to have you by his side till the end.

Bye, for now.

Sharifah

Oral Cancer in Malaysia
quote:
Cancer of the oral cavity is the sixth most common malignancy worldwide, with over 400,000 new cases diagnosed annually, and its incidence is rising in many countries. It is more common in developing than in developed countries and is particularly prevalent in South and South-East Asia, where it has been associated with the common habit of chewing a stimulant known as betel quid. Although it can be fairly easily treated, death rates are higher than for many other cancer types, mainly because i...
