I have been off work since the end of September. I have cancer on the base of tongue and tonsil and had lymph glands removed from neck. Does anybody know how long I may be off work. At the moment I get SSP from work £66.15 per week. I am a female and live on my own. As with everyones else I have problems swallowing, problems facing the world as cant face going out and seeing people because of my scars and problems with my speech and there is no way I can eat in front of anyone. I have just finished radiotherapy yesterday so I am feeling pretty awful and have no tastebuds. I just wonder how I am going to cope financially as I think I will be off work for a long time. I have a problem lifting my right arm above my shoulder since the operation. Can someone advise me?

Hi Marion
I think you can probably claim disability living allowance, also if you ask the hospital to refer you to a social worker you can get all the information from them, there is help available but you have to ask.Good luck Jennie |

Hello Marion I seem to remember Paul saying he is able to give advice on what benefits are available. You maybe could send him a private email. Cheers Brenda

Hi Marion
Have a look at this post on Benefits for Cancer Patients. Also speak to your Macmillan nurse and try contacting the Bradford Cancer Support group for advice. Hope that helps.
