I am a 48 year old male, formerly a heavy drinker, but quit 10 years ago. Smoked for 22 years (< 1 pack/day). Have had chronic sinus problems for years, and went to the ENT a couple of weeks ago. He did a scope on me,and said it was clear, except that the base of my tongue was large and lumpy. Ordered a CT scan, which apparently showed the lumpiness, but was not helpful beyond that. Now I am scheduled for a PET scan on Monday.

I am scared to death, even though the doctor said the chances of cancer were "small". Anybody have any experience or guidance for me along these lines?

Jeff

Hi OhioGolfer

You are doing all the right things. It is a worrying time, but worrying doesn't help - just messes up your weekend! You have done what needed to be done. No one can give you an answer at this time.

So my advice is to relax . Play golf, take walks in scenic places that you find peaceful or do whatever suits you. Think positive healing thoughts and hope for a good journey - whatever the route.

Best wishes

Vinod :coffee:

Hi golfer. Anything lumpy in the throat is a worry. Similar thing happened to me, and unfortunately,it was cancer and iv'e really been through the treadmill but hopefully now recovering. The only way to determine if what you have is cancerous is for the ENT surgeon to perform a biopsy where a sample of the suspect tissue is removed and sent for testing. You will usually get a result within two weeks. Let me know how you get on golfer and here's hoping your all clear. steve.
