Just donated using PayPal which was very easy and very secure. No problem at all for international transactions - the currency conversion is automatically done for you with no surcharge.

Damn! I wish I could join you! Anyone want to send me a stimulus package? (I'm talking finances here; not the really fun stuff.)

Angie, you're the best. Debs - looks like you've given yourself the best present possible. You're surrounding yourself with love and I'm honored to be part of it. We'll never forget the man that started it all.

Hello Mimi
How I wish you could be there as well. We've all taken a roller coaster ride together, haven't we?
You're right about Angie ~ she's a true treasure, isn't she. I don't know what I'd do without her!
Shame you're not in Australia, Mimi. THere have been stimulus (again, financial only ~ sorry! Although no doubt one could find alternatives if one so desired ......>Wink packages flying left right and centre down here. A number of payments went to deceased persons as well. Wouldn't you know it ~ they woke up to that one before Trevor (or even I!) got the benefit! Drats.
Thanks so much for your donation. We're going to knock 'em dead (maybe poor choice of phrase ~ you know what I mean!)
Love
Deborah

I used Paypal too, it sees the easiest option. Mimi, your sense of humour cracks me up.
Kenny, Glasto is brilliant , if a little expensive on the food/drink front.

Well the most amazing thing has just happened!
I took Marley for a walk and called to visit friends around the corner and they happened to have visitors who were here from Ireland as it turned out.
I asked if they knew 'Ken'! They asked where is he from and I said 'Ireland'. What's his last name? I don't know said I and after much frivolity I explained how I know Ken and all about the MCF, the walk etc and invited them to come along before continuing on my walk (training???)
I arrived home to a phone message from my friend to the effect that I should contact them and stay over if I'm in either London or Ireland. I don't have their addresses and contact details yet as they have left them with my friend. They also left generous donations with instructions to 'please give this to your friend for her walk'. How absolutely lovely is that?
Ahhhhh.

Hi Deborah,

That is a lovely story and reminds me that no matter what we see on the news or read in the papers there are many many wonderful people out there.

I was in Dublin last week for a hospital visit and on the way home I popped into my favorite cafe in Dublin, the "Metro Cafe" for a cup of tea. Myself and Niall the owner have the same music tastes. He was one of the first people I told after I was diagnosed. I remember him giving me a hug and saying "I would be OK and he would pray for me."

As I was leaving and saying my goodbye's. He pulled his cheque book out and wrote a cheque for a substantial amount, as a donation for the Mouth Cancer Walk 2009.

I left with tears in my eyes.

You can also see my details on my just giving web page:

Look forward to seeing you in September.

Take care

Come on Mimi, dry those tears! I don't want to get started again.
I think the 'world' is ugly but if we people don't pay attention to that and concentrate on one another, we'll all continue to find these experiences.
I don't watch the news or read the papers anymore ~ too depressing. I'd rather look at the little picture and then I think the big one will take care of itself.
Ken I loved reading your page and looking at your pics. Great to put a dial to the name! Lovely snap of you and your daughter. Is she walking too?
Your story about Niall was very sweet. Do you know, I think people generally want to help others ~ but they have to know help is needed before they can do it and if they learn about things on a personal, more one to one level it all makes a whole lot more sense to them. Great stuff.
How far is it from your place to Hyde Park? Will you travel down and back in one day or is it too far? I was told the other day that the UK fits in the area between Brisbane (Queensland) and Sydney (New South Wales) ~ that's not very big!!!
I look forward to meeting you too Ken. It will be a very emotional time I think.
Catch you soon
Love
Deborah

Hi Deborah,

Yes my daughter is part of the team along with my partner Ann. I must get a photo of Ann up on my fundraising site.

I think your geography is as bad as my maths? Ha ha! There is a bit of water between Ireland and the UK called the Irish Sea.

We plan to fly over to London from Dublin for a long weekend and do the walk. Looking for a reasonable hotel as close to Hyde Park as possible.

Take care

Now Ken, don't be too harsh. In my defence, I didn't do geography at school I did commerce instead (there'll be no further discussion on that one ~ should've chosen geog!)
How long is the flight time over? Maybe I was thinking of Scotland?
Cheers
Deborah

Hi Deborah,

I am not sure I did anything at School other than play football. I seem to have spent most of my time staring out of the window dreaming I was some where else.

Flight from Dublin to London is about an hour which is very short compared to your flight to London. Plenty of time for a good book?

So looking forward to the 26th going to be a wonderful day!

Best regards

Ken

Hi Ken
You're right about the difference in flight times to London! Wanna swap???
I'll have to find a good book. I have a pile of books sititng waiting to be read however I think I've been reading the current one all year! Just can't get my head into a book at present which is a bit frustrating although it could be my body making sure I get on with some of the work that's piled up around me. If I've got my head in a book unfortunately everything else seems to fall by the wayside til it's finished!
I have the details of the fella I met last week. He lives in Clonnel, Co. Tipperary. One thing I DO know ~ it's a long way to Tipperary!
Is that anywhere near you?
Must away. I'm back to work tomorrow (2 days short of 12 months) and need to get my head together.
Hope you're well.
Cheers
Deborah
