I hope these comments don't continue. I log on almost everyday to see what Trev is up to and how he is feeling. It's horrible to have his postings interrupted by nonsense. ANYWAY... How is the weather lately Trev? Here in Chicago we hit 70F but I am sure we are not done with cold fronts and snow. It usually continues well into April. Take Care.

Hi! Noemi,
Good to hear from you and in answer to how I am still having a bout with the pain and have seen the GP and the Palliative Care Nurse to get the pain under control. The waether here has been quite good with the days pleasantly warm and the evenings cool, for a short term I would love to see some snow but that is something that would never happen in our state. Yes there have been a few strange interruptions and some retarded Trolls & Socks, but our "Troll Patrol" is up to them. Take care Noemi and everybody else. Love Trev |

Hello All
This is the trusty (and overworked/under paid) secretary here. It's 9am and I have just arrived home after a rather upsetting night. All was progressing normally til about 11.30 last night when Trevor was getting ready for bed and complaining about not feeling so well and having 'new' pain. He took his medication and went to bed. I followed about 3/4 hour later and was woken an hour later with Trevor in agony. He had enough drugs on board to dull anything but he was nauseous from the pain etc so I called an ambulance and got him to the hospital. Long story short ~ more drugs and drips, lots of vomiting, raging temp and it seems he has a kidney infection. Has every ingredient known to man in his urine! He was admitted and got to the ward around 4.30am. He was so hot, poor thing but had the rigors and sooo much pain. He was scared (almost to death!) that he was on the way out but once again he rose to post again ............ He will be back. The dr expects he will be in hospital for a few days and so Trevor asked me to keep you updated (and I have) Cheers All Deborah |

Hello Deborah ,what a worrying night you have both had .Kidney infections are indeed an extremely painful thing .Pleased to hear they have got Trev stabilized and in a few days they will get the infection under control and he will soon be home .
We have been out of the loop for a wee while due to technical problems with our computer and broadband repairs in our area and have missed the forum . Paul is still having pain issues which we are having trouble getting under control and nearly had a wee ambulance journey ourselves last night .Please give Trev our love today and tell him we are thinking of him .Over here it is Mother's day today so I do hope you get a rest and bit of spoiling at some point with the family . Look forward to hearing home coming news for Trev soon . Love , Bell & Paul |

Hi All
Well you can bet your boots that the moment Trevor is able to post, he will! We have had a pretty rough time since I posted last. I had a couple of hours sleep yesterday morning since I knew Trevor was safe and settled however I had a call from the hospital to tell me they were trasferring him to the large hospital down in the suburbs because up here they didn't have the facilities to carry out extensive tests over the weekend and they were very concerned with T's condition. His blood pressure was dangerously low indicating an infection. So, into the ambulance and off. When I got down to Elizabeth (very royal place, named after herself and built for all the Poms who migrated out here back in the 60s and 70s ~ a little history lesson to keep you all interested!)he looked awful. Loads of pain. They did an xray, ultrasound and cat scan and then spotted the kidney stone! Trevor has kidneys that are like sponges ~ full of holes and those holes get a build up of junk as the fluid flushes through, leading to the development of heaps of stones. He hasn't had any problems for about 8-9 years (why start again now, I ask!) His temp was up, his blood pressure down and the dr said he needed urgent surgery to remove the blockage because an infection had developed and he was at risk of going into renal failure. Sorry if I'm rambling. As it turned out, that dr could not get hold of any of the urologists. No-one was answering their phone and so it was decided to transfer him (yes ~ again!) to Adelaide ~ where all Ca treatment has been done. Great! We were stuck in the ED for hours! More bloods and more bloods taken but no talk of the surgery. Eventually they were giving T a transfusion before sending him up to the ward so Peta and I left at about 2.15 am. What a day it had been. Trevor was pretty distressed this morning and I couldn't get there til around midday. Dr came up at about 2, very apologetic and stressing the urgency in the procedure being done this arvo. Because of the backlog in theatre they were planning on simply putting a tube into the kidney and draining it into a bag. The importance being to get the infected fluid out. That bag would be left for a few weeks and then the stone would be removed. OK. That seemed like the plan and then the dr came back a few minutes later and asked about T's Ca status. When we told him we were just going with the flow, he said 'right' you need to be home and out of here, we'll put a stent from the kidney to the bladder, bypassing the stone. That will keep the ureter open, the stone won't effect the drainage from the kidney and all will be well with the world. Beautiful. So that's what they did (eventually). He was back on the ward at 7.30 and miraculously (as is the case with the removal or clearance of impacted kidney stones) he was a new man (or at least the same man as he was on Saturday!) I can't remember when I was last so happy. It was great ~ pressure relieved, pain gone and now just a matter of clearing up the infection. He had a cup of strong coffee and four biscuits and you'd have thought it was a gourmet meal such was the pleasure it gave him. I guess he may even come home tomorrow although they may just monitor things for 24 hours before releasing him. I'm so happy and relieved and Trevor is just wanting ~ food: a toilet: someething to drink: to sit with his legs over the side of the bed; and, oh "when can I go home?" So there you have it! Cheers from here Love Deborah PS This post will be available in book form in July. Please make cheques payable to the Mouth Cancer Foundation. Ha ha. |
