Hi Shirl, you cant beat a dog for loyalty and companionship can you. My wife and I lost 2 dogs and a cat in the same year a few years ago and it did us right in. We've got 1 dog and a cat now. Look forward to the pics. Hagg.

Hi Shirl,
One of my ambitions is to have an Irish Wolfhound. Not because I live here, I've wanted one for years. Before I came to live in Cork City I always had dogs. When I have finished college and moved out to the country again it's first on my list, sod the new furniture or whatever else is deemed essential for comfortable living!
Many years ago I had a wolfhound/deerhound cross and he was an absolute darling, sadly he died, that type of large dog does not have a great life span.
OK, so I'm totally mad, I want a donkey or two aswell. (Blame it on the RT, it fried my brain as well as the tissue it hit!)
I AM going to move out into the wilds. I AM going to have my dog(s) and donkey(s). I AM either going to ride the donkey(s) or use a cart to get around and have the dog(s) running besides me!
I don't care what anyone else thinks, I've thought about it for years and it's my reward to me for getting better. Big Grin
I'd love to see photo's of your new addition when you get him.

hey susie
that sounds a great idea what a sight for folks to see you riding a donkey or in a cart with your dogs running beside you,its always nice to have a dream,my dream has always been to be a midwife,i have always wanted to be one after i had my first child,i applied to the regional health board back in the early 70's, they were really narrow minded in those days and because i was a single parent at the time they said i would be no use to them as they could not rely on me if my child was sick or on school holidays(christ knows how they thought married women would cope with this problem?)so that was the end of that dream.i have a cousin in wales who at the time was a health visitor but previously had been an srn and a midwife she said in wales you could just do a midwifery course where as in england you had to be an srn first and then do the midwifery course.i did not fancy leaving all my family behind and living in wales so i never bothered.ended up being a receptionist and checkout operator,i have always loved working with the public.so now you know what my ambition was, love shirl xxx

I've been waiting since this thread was started for a pic of my cousin's beagle, Bene, who was given to my cuz when he (my cousin, not the beagle!) had sinus cancer. He has been cancer free since 1998 and swears that caring for a new puppy, having to think and care for someone other than himself, had everything to do with his speedy recovery.

Well, the pic came through today - and I proudly present you with Bene.

Bene is gorgeous Mimi. I knew a lady once and when her old dog passed away she said she would never get another one. Not long after she got high blood pressure her GP advised her to get another dog! Low & behold it worked.

Mum,

I love your story! It reminds me of my grandmother, a Croatian immigrant (came alone to the US in 1911 when she was 19 years old, from what was the Austro-Hungarian Empire, later Yugoslavia, and finally Croatia). She died at age 93 of heart problems but lived in her own home until the year before she died. She had a minor stroke and against her better wishes, her sons and daughters (the 'kids' were in their sixties and seventies and a little too old to care for her) placed her in a convalescent hospital which is a euphemism for That Place You Go Before You Die.

She had many dogs through the years and when the last one died of old age when Baba was about 88, she told us she didn't want another because she was tired of outliving her pets and each one became more precious than the last. She thought at age 88 that she'd outlive a puppy!

By the way, there's that thing about your user name that endears me - and probably everyone else - to you. As you know, we don't say 'Mum,' here, but 'Mom,' and it all conjures up the same feelings. My Mom passed away about 15 years ago and I miss her like crazy, particularly during these two cancer bouts. There's something about reading a post from you that gives me the warm-fuzzies. I want to put my head in your lap and have you tell me that everything's all right and I'm going to be just fine.

Best wishes to you.

Mimi
