Dera Dr Joshi, Next week I am due for my monthly check up (I HATE GOING THERE) and there is talk of taking my teeth out , They do hurt sometimes and some have broken off. BUT this is the question:
Do I take what they say is over a 50% risk of infection after extraction? I think this would do me in to go through anymore surgery!!! Paul |

Hi Paul
If the jaw bone in which the teeth are sited was not in the path of the irradiation beam, healing should be normal. The lower jaw bone is otherwise at risk of osteoradionecrosis. (It is rare in the upper jaw). To reduce this risk, the following measures are recommended: (1) pre-extraction hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBO) to increase the oxygen saturation (20 presurgical treatments) (2) peri-operative antibiotic coverage (before, during, after) (3) the extraction surgery is done as atraumatically as possible (4) 10 postsurgical HBO treatment More details at this earlier post on teeth extractions Best wishes Vinod :coffee: Disclaimer: Please see your own dentist/doctor for a proper diagnosis as my words should not, in any circumstances, be taken as dental/medical advice.
