OI went to my oncologist today and told him how much worse my eating and strength (chickwen and egg situation!) since the last time I saw him, and how even Ensure came back at me. Told him I was living on this week's starvation fighter which is homemade mushroom soup thickened with breadcrumbs, three dark chocolate Magnums and a packet of good old Complan which tasted remarkably good after years and years.
I asked if he could stretch my gullet so that I could eat more.
Anyway after thoroughly examining my mouth, tongue, jaw, and camera down throat he asaid I wouldhave to come in for a fedw days so that theyh could have a proper look. Barium meal and see how the oesophagus was.
That sent a real chill to my heart as my mother died of cancer of the oesophagus ten years ago and shd shrank to nothing.
But I didn;''t tell him that in case he then put that right up at the top of possibles. I know that doesn't show faith but there you go. I do. But don't want to give any leverage!
Has anyone any knowledge of their mouth/throat cancer leading to the oes[hagus trail? My mother's cancer started in the oesophagus and then latterly spread rather nastily to other areas.

Sorry for rambling on but nobody else EALLY understands like the people here.
Regards Ishbel

Hi Ishbel I don't have any answers for you but just want to you know I am thinking of you and hoping it is "something innocent". I know we all think the worst when things don't seem right but try to stay positive - easier said than done I know. Regards Brenda Wink

Dear Ishbel...Big Hug for you...Like Brenda I don't have any answer, but you know all the lovely words of encouragement you give to others along with that witty scottish sense of humour you have - well just keep a little back for yourself, and give yourself a little pampering, you certainly deserve it.

Take care and thinking of you.

Rosemary

p.s. sent you an e-mail the other day.

Hi Ishbel

The barium meal (it coats the oesophagus lining) will allow visualisation of the oesophagus diameter through it length and provide information on location and extent of the stricture. If there was concern about a cancer , they would consider an endoscope with direct vision and also take a biopsy. So relax.

Best wishes

Hello Dr Joshi--thanks for these reassuring words. But mightn't they use endoscope and take biopsies while they are down there ? Surgeon said he would 'have a good look around'.
I hope you are still in sunny Malaysia!
Regards Ishbel

Thank you very much friends. Feel better already and it is a great excuse for giving everybody book tokens this year! Recipe books to show what a great human being this is. Joke bracket. I think I'll go for eulogies!
Rosemary I can't find your e-mail. Which date would it have been?
Regards Ishbel

Hi Ishbel

Got back on Tuesday evening. Kuala Lumpur is a lovely city, great food and friends. Had a hectic but good break. Am still jet-lagged and waking up at 4am!

Best wishes

Ishbel...I hope you are feeling a bit brighter. You have a knack of making me feel better when I read your postings, don't like to think of you feeling down. I sent you an e-mail on Sunday past.

Take care

Rosemary
