I too have a load of them left over and now out of date. I believe that re-distribution is disapproved of, and they could not be returned for health/security reasons. There are nutters out there who poison fortisip bottles?

My dietician told me that they used to send to '3rd World' until carriage became too expensive. I wonder if the use by date was an issue too?

There are lots of points there about waste and expense. I also have many bottles of Difflam that will end up binned c/o pharmacy.

I always feel so guilty about waste, but what can you do?

Didn't I read of someone giving them to a local vet's or animal sanctuary of some kind ?

They can still be used for feeding up recuperating animals.

Just a quickie.

If you don't like the taste of Fortisips add your own flavours.
I use ice cream sauces, strawberry, toffee, chocolate, maple.............the list goes on.

Even the worst Fortisips tastes ok in the end.
I have been doing this for over eight years and now like the stuff. LOL

Hi Kathleen and company

When my NG tube came out (oh, happy day!) I had several cases of Comply that I didn't need and couldn't give back to the hospital, so I took them a charity ("patient equipment locker") near where I was living at the time. They also took the rest of my feed bags and the stand. You might want to check into something like that in your area.

Dave, I don't think even the strongest flavoring could have made Comply palatable. It had the mouthfeel, consistency, and--as I recall--some of the flavor of latex paint. Hmmm. Perhaps my dad and I should have used it when we repainted my bedroom while was recovering. Would have saved us quite a bit.

Howdilly doodilly, survivorinos!

Never thought about using it for paint. LOL

But now you have me thinking.
I keep reptiles and sometimes have rescue ones in.
Now I'm wondering if I could use any unwanted 'food' stuffs as a pick me up for lizards that are not eating.

Mmmm, off to do research. Smiler

Pathetic as this may sound i actually threw away Robins fortisip co three days ago. They were twelve months out of date, but i used to like to see them when i opened the cupboard.

As for returning unused and unwanted medication,in the UK this is against the law.If you have the prescrition dispensed and don't even open it,they will not take it back or reuse it.To me this is criminal, and a lot of the reason why we pay so much for our medicines. If i hadnt got a prepayment certificate robs meds were costing £100 per week, and every time we saw the oncology Registrar during his rads,he changed everything.the fortisip was delivered direct 18 dozen bottles at a time.Robs went down his peg tube, but he used to get gastric reflux so he ended up tasting it,he would only tolerate strawberry and chocolate. The dog was completely hooked on the stuff and sat on the sofa next to her dad grizzling until he gave her the last inch in the jug, feeds were her favourite time of the day

My girlfriends 3 year old daughter loves the stuff.
When she(I'm) preparing it she has to have a taste.....well nearly a full carton.
LOL.

I tend to recycle my unwanted meds around my family and friends.
My brother has the foods I can't re-flavour, he's a bit weird like that and will eat anything. Smiler
My spare pain killers are snapped up, only mild ones, you can buy over the counter.
But at least my stuff isn't wasted.

I still have some morphine but that's staying under lock and key. Wink

HiAll,
In regards to the feeds that where supplied by the hospital, when I had finished with my PEG tube feeding I had only just recieved a delivery of Ensure complete with syringes and plugs these where not allowed to go back to the hospital so I took them to the local elderly care centre where they were snapped up with glee. As for the surplus or out of date drugs, these I took to the chemist who has them sent to some third world country along with old spectacles and implements. Heavy Drugs have to be incinerated as they are controlled by the government,BOY did they have a look on their face when I returned 1.5 litres of OxyCodone that hadn't even been opened, (I think they where thinking $30 for 25Mills, divide that into 1.5ltrs mmmmmmmmmmmm $$$$$$$$$$).
