Boney protrusion

Hi
I've developed a sore patch in my mouth beyond the retromolar area on the right lower jaw.Its too far back to see, but you can just about reach it with a finger without gagging! It feels hard and boney and is very sore especially when prodded. My dentist reckons it's a boney protrusion. nothing is showing on the x-ray. He is going to refer me as I am quite worried about it. I'm having trouble (and scaring myself) finding info on the net. Any thoughts?

Hello V

Your dentist thinks it is a boney protrusion, so s/he doesn't think it is cancer. If s/he isn't worried enough to fast-track refer you, you should relax too! Let us know what it is when you find out. Meanwhile stop poking the finger in to feel it, it will make it sore.

Best wishes

Thank you for your reassuring response - I guess I am a natural born worrier! Everymorning I wake up with a sore throat and a nasty taste in my mouth and assume the worst. I also have a dry tickly cough and spit up phlegm in the mornings. (I suffer badly with asthma) It's great to be able to get online support from people who know what they are talking about and who have been through so much.
Kind regards,
V
