I have several trips planned this year outside the UK I have read other posts about travel insurance and have called a few companies to get prices details etc.

It seems that I can get travel insurance but it will exclude anything that may happen to me as a result of my cancer, I have found a company that will consider each case and may be able to give full cover but the premium is about £800 per trip and each trip has to be assessed separately and letter given by doctor to say you are fit travel.

The dilemma is do you take a risk and get cover excluding any event due to the cancer or go for full cover pay the price and have peace of mind ? I would not expect my cancer to return and put me straight in hospital so if I did have problems I would just have to pay for a quick flight home and £800 should more than cover that. or should I keep perusing other travels insurance companies who may be able to give me a annual travel insurance with full cover at better terms than £800 per trip.

I will be going to China, Peru and Dominican Republic.

What experiences have others had ?

In the past this would probably not have bothered me I have travelling to all strange places in the world with little thought or care about consequences, but the Cancer has knocked my confidence a bit and it has been difficult to get the confidence back to travel abroad again,

I am sure once over my fist trip I will not be so worried about the consequences of having full cover.

Hi Johnmac, I have been to Egypt, China, Turkey, Albania. If you read me blog you will see that having cancer has not stopped me going anywhere Wink. I get world-insurance that covers all except that related to my cancer. The cost is about £60 a year. I belive that my cancer will not mean that I need urgent medical treatment abroad as I can always get the next flight home if need be and pay for it myself. This year I hope to do Vietnam and maybe Peru. I have been moore places and seen more things since having cancer than I ever did before, so go for it you will not regret it. All my travels were done alone untill I met my present wife during one of my trips. don't worry about food because my idea is at least I can always eat soup if nothing else. Get out there and do it mate. Cool
I look foreward to hearing about your travels

Hello Johnmac,
I am going to Burlington, Vermont in \July for annual IAL conference (International Associaion of Laryngectomees) and best insurance quote I have had is from Direct Line Insurance (I have my home and buuildings wuith them).
They will charge me £250 which will pay for up to $5million which will cover a helluva lot of cancers, and sprained ankles. And botched beauty treatments. I made the last one up!
Happy travelling.
