Heathrow steve here after yet another long absence. I think I have reached a point where I no longer need any kind of emotional support or guidance from the wisdom of others. I am a Cancer veteran now and although the harshness of the illness was tremendous, it changed my life in many ways....some I regret....and some for the good. I am still a trustee at The Community Cancer Centre in West Drayton and am still involved in fundraising missions for the centre. Haven't been on TV though recently for Mouth Cancer awareness (standards are slipping). For the last two years I have travelled to India and have been involved in a voluntary education project for the IVCS in Uttar Preadesh, Northern India. I also spent some months in Thailand. India was particularly rewarding though and I am fully involved with the committee now for the IVCS and our recent meeting highlighted the progress of a new health clinic that has recently been set up in Amarpurkashi which is a poor village in rural Northern India. I will be going back out there again in 2011. Life has certainly changed since my diagnosis in 2003 and the dilema that followed when I gave up my job in Air Freight and split from my long term partner Jane. Life hit rock bottom for me, but on reflection, the experience prompted me to go out and do something I would never have considered doing had it not been for the changes that Cancer bought about in my life. You don't always know where you are heading when you recover from your brush with death but for me it's been a good place and I have some fantastic memories from my travels in the last two years. I've even worked in two Bollywood films during my time in India. I posted a link on the survivors page for my battle with Cancer becauase I don't think I ever posted my story on this site. But i'll add it on the bottom of this post and maybe some of you may want to look through my website while you are there...especially you Vinod (wouldn't mind your feedback). Anyway...to those of you who remember me (Paul...you should) I hope you are all doing well and luck is on your side. I promise to visit more often!
