I'm interested to know how other young cancer patients were treated during treatment.
I was 22 when i was diagnosed last year. During my treatment i found alot of the information i was given had very little to with me - with questions like ' Can i still visit my granchildren?' and ' Can i still wear my dentures during R.T.?'. My issues were more like ' Will i still be able to go clubbing?'. I found waiting rooms uncomfortable - people assumed the person accompanying me was there for treatment, not me! Everyone seemed fascinated by me! Dealing with the possibility that i may become infertile was so difficult. And i saw the gynea the day before my chemo started so what options i was given couldn't be put into effect. Not to mention how blase the doctor was with me and my partner of 5 years. I found a few doctors would talk to my mum, or nan, or whoever was with me, rather than me. VERY frustrating! I know cancers in the 18 - 50 age group are uncommon. More so in the 18 - 30. But it does happen! On the other hand, i do feel that some of the nurses and doctors felt they could empathise with me more - as some were around my age. And they do say we should recover quicker (so i do feel like a bit of a failure in that respect - ending up in hospital with dehydration and malnutrtion lol). Did anyone else feel a bit like a freak? Like i did *lol I'd love to hear oher peoples ecxperiences. -~*Great spirits have always encountered violent opposition from mediocre minds*~- ...Albert Einstein |
