That's a good one. We sometimes refer to rubber boots (galoshes) as "rubbers", but generally "rubber" only refers to a condom. We never refer to erasers as "rubbers".

On the original point of my anxiety over a biopsy in starting this post, yesterday I got a follow-up on the biopsy that had been negative for cancer but positive for a papilloma wart. They sub-typed the papilloma and ruled out the strains that are associated with mouth/cervical cancer development.

Which means a month's worth of wasted worry over a harmless tongue-wart, making my clinical diagnosis that of "worry wart".

Private message not getting past spam filters. Not sure why.

I was going to wish you a happy Thanksgiving, but now I'm guessing you guys don't celebrate that.

SmilerWell, we don't have the Founding Father's over here, but I am sure the Wild Turkey they ate, was far more tasty than the dreadful creatures that are fed and housed in overcrowded sheds where many die and have to be cleared on a daily basis, and now with bird flue' god help the poor turkies. I would prefer a Christmas Goose, better tasting!

Hello jp,

Might as well go to the doctor and get it checked out. Its probably nothing serious, but you never know. Keep us posted on what happens.

hi Ron,
went to see GP yesterday, and she said as the lump is soft and smooth she doesn't think it is anything to worry about, but as it has been there for so long, and it should not have been, she wants me to go for hospital check , to be sure. The prob is as she has not refered me as an emergency, im now paranoid that by the time i get seen, if it is cancer, it will have done me no good to have left it !!. I know i bit my cheek about four weeks ago, twice in same place, on same day, cos i remember cursing, it hurt so much, but it did not bleed or anything, the doc said this is prob what the lump is, and its just healed into a fatty lump, but it did not bleed, so im not convinced!.Do you know of any web sites that show actual photos of mouth cancer?. I am prob just being a paranoid woman, but i cant sleep and feel realy down, and trying not to show my fear infront of my children. Are there any online doc's you can send messages to for advice? thanks jp

jp,

Steady on, girl. Keep a stiff upper lip. (-: Early detection is important with mouth cancer, but a few weeks doesn't make that much of a difference. In my case, when it did turn out to be malignant tumors, they waited around for six weeks doing nothing but more tests and having meetings about how to do the treatments. So its not like a few weeks makes that big of a difference. (And my treatments were then 100% successful, leaving me a happy and healthy, albeit dry-mouthed and soft-food-slurping mouth cancer survivor.)

Given what you've said about what's in your mouth, I would bet a hundred Euros against a crumpet that you have something-that's-not-cancer.

Chin up, and carry on.

Good luck, jp. It is so reassuring to see that there is at least one person who is a worse worrier than I am. Sure glad its you going through all this, and not me! Smiler
