Hi Dave!
This can be a common trend with Ensure.
You could ask your Dr to prescribe Scandishakes indstead. You mix these up with milk and taste quite nice. Or you could ask for Fortisip. These are pre made. I had no problems with these.
Hope it helps,
Michelle.

I had no problem with Ensure, or the fibre enriched version Enrich. Having said that the flavours weren't great, but I had a PEG fitted so took most of them that way. Got up to 6 a day for a while!

SmilerEnsure gave me violent pains in stomach and heart burn, which I have never had in my life.

When my dad was alive he was using Benecalories they were little cups that he could add to his soup. Each packet contained 300 calories per serving it helped him keep the weight on

I took Ensure off and on before and in the early phases of treatment. Then on the peg it was Ultracal every day for every meal and I got a whole range of nasty side-effects. Switching to Ensure made no difference. Only recovering and being able to swallow liquids and some types of foods relieved the symptoms (constipation, nausea, confusion, light-headedness, frequent urination).

Looking back I sort of wish I'd mixed in thin milkshakes, or plain milk, but I was always afraid it would clog the tube and I'd die of thirst. Not clear thinking.

Three plus years later I mostly eat overcooked pasta and milkshakes, with vitamin pills, and sometimes eggs or spam or processed meat or blueberries, crackers soaked in chicken broth, etc. I wouldn't feed Ensure to my dogs, but that doesn't mean I'm right.

Hello Ron. How are you. I have to agree with you there. Its been a few years since I digested my last ensure. It didn't matter what flavour they were, it couldn't disguise that horrible nauseating smell and aftertaste. How I got through so many of the damn things beats me. Guess I should have been a little more adventurous at the time but they were ready and prepared. The remainder of my last case of ensure went to Tiggywinkles wildlife sanctuary for sick animals. Wonder what they thought of the stuff.

Boy oh Boy - why must I always be odd one out. The docs recomended Ensure but the thing left just an awful taste ( in my case). So I was on banana, guava, strawberry and other fruit milkshakes.
They were a dream and hats off to my dear wife and mum.
