Hi all!
In the past week, I've been having a bump on my gum. The location of the bump is exactly where my molar was previously. It gets painful when I try to swallow hard. Its getting me worried. Is it a recurrence? Has anyone experience that? Had a total glossectomy on Apr 16 and a neck dissection. Thanks. Sharifah http://hiduplama.com "Life is too short" |

Hello Sharifah
It may turn out to be just scar tissue or other but you are strongly advised to see your consultant for an opinion and diagnosis as all else will be speculation. Let us know how you get on. Hello,
I went to an ENT specialist and he said that it could be gingivitis or infection. So, he gave me some antibiotics and a mouthwash (Workadine). He said that we should just see how it goes first. Well, I am due for my follow up on the 7th. Hopefully, the swelling would shrink by then. Bye! Sharifah http//hiduplama.blogspot.com "Life is too short" |

Hi everyone!
Went for my follow up last week. My doctor decided to perform a biopsy on the swollen gum. Results of the biopsy is not out yet and its driving me nuts! I am scheduled for a ct scan this sunday. The doctor talked about a possibility of another operation. This time, part of the mandible will have to be removed if the cancer spreads to the bone. If that happens, I will have to make even more adjustments than what I have come to get used to. Looks like I wont be able to put on weight. Any advice? sharifah http://hiduplama.blogspot.com "Life is too short" |

Hello everyone,
Just got my biopsy and ct scan report today. Well, my fear has become a reality. The swelling is cancer and I am due for another major operation in Aug 13. This time, the doctor will remove part of the mandible and reconstruct it. Looks like things are going to be worse than before. Some people say that second operation is worse than the first. Any opinion on that? Sharifah http://hiduplama.blogspot.com "Life is too short" |

Hello Sharifah
I am sorry to hear that you are to have a second surgery. It may all appear discouraging, but be assured that you will get through this too. A section of mandible bone is removed if the cancer is thought to have involved it to make sure no cancer cells are left within. The jaw bone removed is usually reconstructed with bone plate and grafted bone at the same operation. Focus on the endpoint and a successful outcome. Hiduplama!
