Ron,
I understand why you feel that way. I would feel alot better if God would let me win the lottery or something. Just look at it this way, some people are just too special and God wants to see them sooner! Hope all is well with you and wish you the best!

I realize the original post by Ron is 2 years old, but I'd like to post my feelings on the topic. I'm 46; I had a cancerous mass removed from my upper lip in Feburary 2006. The cancer also spread to a lymph node in my neck which was also removed along with 17 other nodes. Today 6/5/06 I just had my 24th of 35 radiation treatments. I am not a religious person, I don't believe in heaven or hell or God or the Devil. I do believe that if you go into this treatment with a positive attitude you will get through it better then someone who is negative. I go to my treatments every day with a smile on my face, I laugh and joke with the Dr's ,Nurses and Radiation Tech's and I am experiencing very few side effects. My Dr. is very impressed and says my positive attitude and cheerful personality are a big help in getting me through this. I'm 24 treatments in , - head and neck radiation and I don't have any mouth soars, no soar throat, my weight has remained the same. I am in much better shape then most people who go through this treatment and it is because I refuse to let it get me down. This cancer will not beat me, I will defeat it!

Hi JMD
I'm doing much the same.

I had my lymph glands (RHS) removed in April and had a really good experience - no pain (at all), great gang of people around me etc etc. During the latter part of my operations (there were three, all told) I was awake and joking with the surgeons.

This cancer will NOT beat you and you WILL defeat it! I too will defeat my cancer, I refuse to let it win.

Keep up the great fight and keep in touch. Razzer

Hi JMD and Robert,
Thats mthe best way to beat the hell out of this damn irritant. I just treated it as a bad cold and never considered it a death option. I continued planning my life as though all was fine and its been five years now and all is OK except my fistula did not heal and hence have been breathing through my stoma and am on peg feed.
Keep it up - you are winners and will always be so.

Take care,
Ananth

Hi Ron,
You are bang on target. I feel excatly the way you do. Everyone just goes gaga about me being a fighter and on and on. I keep telling them that it was not my will or determination to fight as I was in no condition to do so and its pure luck I survived.
I am really glad you brought up this topic because it will go a long way in getting people to understand that noone is a fighter - its just luck and the help of medicine and doctors.

Take care
