Has anyone heard what the outcome was on the decision by the NHS to fund implants - apparently it was coming out yesterday (21/10/03). Any news would be greatly appreciated. And how is everyone doing by the way - i'm still kicking Big Grin .shell

Hello Shell

I didn't know there was a decision due! .......... and I am on the BDA Hospital Dental Services exec committee and also secretary-elect of the Association of Dental Implantology

The NHS does fund dental implants Smiler . However Frowner , dental implants will only be funded for patients with maxillofacial defects resulting from developmental or congenital disorders, major trauma or the treatment of tumours Big Grin . In exceptional circumstances the use of implants will be considered for edentulous or partially dentate patients meeting the criteria established by the Faculty of Dental Surgery guidance, and where dentures (made using appropriate specialist techniques) have proved unsuccessful. Restorative dental treatment would be provided by tertiary referral.

Best wishes

Hi Vinod, my maxillo-facial surgeon mentioned it to me 3 weeks ago when i went for my check up because thats all we are waiting for so we can go ahead and start the restructuring of my gum. Maybe it's only for the northampton region but i think i will give him a call and clarify this.
