Hi I don't know if I am worrying over nothing but I keep getting sore throats which last for a few days. I also have a hard lump (pea sized) about a quarter of an inch above my back teeth. This comes and goes aswell. My gran had throat cancer and being a smoker and drinker I keep wondering if I have a similar problem. I don't want to mention this to friends or family because it will only pass the worrying on to them. Has anyone got any symptons like mine?

Hello iker--Well I will just say what I expect you expected! Yes, have it checked out at once. I kept having sore throats five years ago; antibiotics; more sore throats etc. until finally thank goodness my GP referred me to ENT who found that I did have laryngeal cancer. And I am here to tell the tale.
But that doesn't mean you have he disease. Either way, knowing will give you peace of mind which is what you haven't at the moment.
And again thhe blindingly, boringly obvious...try to not smoke until you've seen a doctor at least and they'll be able to examine your throat without nicotine trimmings! Make that appointment tomorrow and keep us posted. Regards Ishbel

Hi Biker, as Ishbel say have it checked out. I have got cancer at the base of my tongue. However, I did not have any signs untill I got a lump on my neck which turned out to be a secondary. So as you can see sometimes you may have cancer and be unaware untill it shows itself somewhere else. As I have said previously have it checked out. I hope all is well, keep us informed about the outcome and I and everyone else well be there to give you our support if ness.
Kind regards Maurice

Recurrent sore throats are a feature of several common infections and also of irritation from tobacco smoke. If it has been going on for weeks you should see your doctor. The hard lump that comes and goes probably needs to be looked at by a dentist, preferably when it is present.

Hi Biker

Do see your dentist and doctor. Let us know what they say. Do try and come off the smoke too - there is much help available nowadays.

Best wishes

Hi cowardice can come up with a lot of excuses. Mine is that work hours did not co-incide with the doctors hours. I did try to get in at the dentists but he is on holiday til september. Anyway I went off biking this weekend to a great rally where quite by chance I met up with a medium who immediately picked up on the fact that i was ill. But the good news is that he said that it wasn't as bad as I thought. So tomorrow I visit the doctor! I just hope that he doesn't think I am some loony hypercondriac. Wishing you all good health and happiness out there and please keep your fingers crossed for me cos I'me not ready to go just yet. Life is good so make the most of it. Take care love your friendly biker x

Hello and thanks to everyone for being there especially Vinod. You listened and were there when I felt alone. I feel so grateful because I am one of the lucky ones! I have had all the tests and I am reasonably healthy. Thanks again and may you all get what you wish for.

Lots of love

Biker
