Well, I wasn't expecting to taste anything for awhile and had been warned it may not ever happen, but just recently have been detecting the taste of things. Haven't tried too much, because I haven't been given the go-ahead for real food and still rely on the peg. But....can taste salt, lemon, my toothpaste, and on the weekend tried the broth from the lentil soup I made and it was ambrosia. I darned near cried. I tried sugar in lemon/water, but it wasn't very strong. Do some flavours register better than others? Tea is not so good and I miss it dreadfully. I'm so surprised at this as it's less than a month since the last treatment. I had read in another forum that this might ebb and flow. What can I expect? Just to know something's there is wonderful. Hi Mynra, The sour taste buds come first than the sweet and it does take awhile. So glad you can eat a little. Cathy Cathy

Every case is different. You should be grateful you can tolerate lemon in your mouth. The acid would be too much for me, and I'm almost a year past my last treatment. Its not a black and white thing about taste. I try to savor whatever taste sensations I have, which is actually based more on smell than taste anyway. Its still frustrating when a food you used to love now tastes like paper. I had the biggest craving for some Frito's corn chips and when I tried one it was like eating sand.

Thanks for the info....I'll take what I can get. When you mentioned corn chips, I immediately flashed to BBQ chips - probably going to be way down the road. Ah, junk food, there has to be a way. Is the turn-off because sensing mainly texture and not taste so much? I tried a spoon of maple syrup at Easter (of course no inkling of taste then) and I could have put olive oil on the spoon instead, the sensation was the same. Or is it the level of taste that can be achieved, or do the taste buds go on the fritz and send different information? Anyway, hit or miss, I'll keep my fingers crossed.
