I HAVE HAD A SORE THROAT FOR ABOUT 3 WEEKS NOW, A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO I HAD A COURSE OF ANTIBIOTICS FOR A COLD THAT WOULD NOT GO AWAY, BUT THIS SORE THROAT REMINDS ME OF MY RADIOTHERAPY DAYS WHEN SWALLOWING WAS PAINFUL AND DRINKING FIZZY JUICE FELT AS THOUGH MY THROAT WAS BURNING. I ALSO HAVE A VERY PAINFUL ULCER ON THE SIDE OF MY TONGUE WHICH HAS BEEN THERE FOR OVER 3 WEEKS ALSO, THIS HURTS WHEN I SPEAK,EAT OR EVEN WHEN MY TONGUE IS RESTING AGAINST MY TEETH. MY FAMILY TELL ME TO GO BACK TO THE DOCTORS, BUT I FEEL I AM NEVER AWAY FROM THERE NOW, AND WOULD FEEL STUPID TELLING HIM ABOUT THIS.

IS THIS A COMMON OCCURANCE AFTER TREATMENT (IT HAS BEEN A YEAR)OR AM I RIGHT TO WORRY?

BEST WISHES
TRACEY

Hi Tracey,
Of course it could just be nothing more than imagination playing tricks. Do you want to risk it?

I would suggest that you go back to the doctor and get it sorted out. If you think that you would feel stupid telling him about this current problem, imagine how you would feel if it was something <bad> and was treatable IF CAUGHT IN GOOD TIME.

Mark you, I’m a good one to talk! I did very little about the lump in my throat for 5 months after a (locum) doctor put me on antibiotics and said that there was nothing to worry about. It turned out to be a secondary cancer in my lymph nodes (since removed)!

Best regards

Robert WT

Tracey,

Please with your history make an appointment.

I have just been to the MAXFAX unit at my local hospital about an ulcer which seemed to be eating away my gum. Was nothing to worry about have been given a course of antibiotics to clear an infection, but my specialists saw me within 24 hours of my call and were not in the slighestout. They would rather I did this than put out and would much rather I call them than decide myself it was not worth their time.

Tracey...

If I might add in my vote to those of Robert and DWR...

Yes DO, by all means, have things checked out.

Never feel "stupid" about bringing your concerns to the attention of those who are responsible for your cancer aftercare.

Wishing all is well...

Melanie

THANKS FOR YOUR QUICK REPLIES, ITS GOOD TO KNOW I CAN ALWAYS COME BACK HERE WITH ANY WORRIES EVEN THOUGH MY TREATMENT IS FINNISHED.
I THINK REALLY AT THE BACK OF MY MIND IS 'WHAT IF ITS BACK?' MAYBE I WOULD RATHER NOT KNOW.
CAN YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

WENT TO DENTIST TO-DAY FOR ROUTINE CHECK UP. I USED TO BE HIS DENTAL ASSISTANT SO I KNOW ABOUT ORAL HYGEINE, I ASKED HIM TO LOOK AT THE ULCER ON MY TONGUE (WHICH HAS GROWN IN SIZE, BUT DOESN'T EVEN LOOK MUCH LIKE AN ULCER ANYMORE)HE SAID HE WASN'T TAKING ANY CHANCES AND SENT AN URGENT REFERRAL TO AN ORAL CONSULTANT FOR A BIOPSY. (THATS WORRYING)
MY CONSULTANT NOW WANTS TO SEE ME ON MONDAY. I KNOW ITS GOOD THAT THEY ARE SEEING ME SO QUICKLY, BUT IT ALSO WORRIES ME.

Dear Tracey,

It's completely natural to be worried - I'm really keeping my fingers crossed for you. Don't ever be afraid of going back to your consultant - I mention even the slightest symptom whenever I see mine and he's always completely understanding.
Take care - I'm thinking about you.
Best wishes
